I live in Hollywood and my neighbors are my fellow Americans. They are originally from the Philipines, Armenia, Thailand, Mexico, India, Nigeria, Korea, Italy, and a bunch of other countries that I don't have time to name. There are also some people descented from African descent, although their families have lived in the U.S. for a few centuries.
My fellow Americans are all the people I see in the gym, who are White, Asian, Black, and Hispanic.
My fellow Americans are the people who go to the cafe I go to. Born as Armenians, Israelis, Greek, and Russians, but they no longer are.
It is the Armenians, Greeks, Hispanics, Philipinos, Thais, Blacks, Mexicans, Koreans, and other fellow Americans that I believe do not give a rat's rear that I am Jewish by origin. Therefore, I am more at ease around all of them than I would be if I thought they didn't like me.
There are more, but I do have to get some work done, which is why I am at the computer.
But does that answer your question?
This is the perrect example of the point I was making.
There is that famous Tea Party attendee, who happened to be Black. A reporter asked him something about feeling comfortable in the crowd and he said something about how he liked being with his fellow Americans.
If he views the people who surround him as his "fellows," he will naturally be happier than someone who views those around him as "The Others."
If you are a minority, and you think your fellow Americans are out to get you, you will not be as happy.

"They have a certain edge about them. I think that very few Americans feel that way, and as a result I am more comfortable with my fellow Americans" Now tell the board what a "Fellow American" is!
