Trump has not explained WHICH taxes would be exempted. If ALL Fed taxes are eliminated, then tip workers are not getting credits for FICA, etc., and will be screwed when it comes to Social Security Retirement Benefits. It has also been pointed out that, according to statistics, the VAST MAJORITY of tip workers have very low incomes (less than $32k/year) and are already paying zero or very low taxes. Only the top 20% of tip workers (high-end restaurants) would see a noticeable or useful tax benefit.

A brief interlude about how much of their tip income restaurant workers declare on their taxes. There were some studies done in Boston many years ago (1990s) that showed that only a very small portion of tip income was declared. (I forget how the study was done, but it was something like: analyze tax records of restaurants (e.g., total sales = 100; reportable tip income should be around 15% = 15); analyze tax records of the employees; tip income declared above the minimum wage paid by the restaurant = 1 or 2. It was something rather laughable. And there was a small number of tax advisors in Chinatown helping C-town workers with their taxes.)
