So I am on my way to work this morning and turned to a progressive radio station which always makes me LOL.
I am not sure who the "guest" was, but she was a total imbecile. She was talking about our "secret" mission to file a missile at the moon. The radio host said he never heard of the mission and her answer was that it was top secret and the government didn't want the people to know.
I suppose the host and his guest are also computer illiterate because there are articles dating back to 2008 about the mission.
To make herself sound even dumber, she claims there is a relation to the missile firing to the weather. OMFG, talk about dumb.
The purpose of the mission was to discover whether or not there was frozen water under the surface of the moon. Future moon missions would benefit without the weight of transporting water.
I could easily make progressive radio a daily subject to entertain us in this forum. If you think the host and guests are stupid, you should hear the callers. They make some of you left wing nuts around here look sane and intelligent.
...like a parody of real life, just make's you shake your head & laugh at the imbeciles who believe in it!
Unlike Air America
I would go on quite a bit on why Air America failed, but regardless, Air America's hosts went on to better things. Four of their radio talk show hosts went on to have their own TV programs, and one became a sitting US Senator. The overwhelming majority of their talent are still on the air too.
Good response. Based on facts...
You make good points. Perhaps I should have said a matter of degree...
All the TOP paid and successful radio pundits are Conservative. In regards to TV, just do a FOX vs. MSNBC comparison.
I will not bother linking to stats, like the great DARTH VADER says...
"Search your feelings, YOU KNOW IT TO BE TRUE"
It is true that conservative talk radio makes more money...at least these days.
Fox News didn't make a dime for the first 5 years they were on the air. Luckily for them, they had a rich guy paying their bills for them. Sadly, no progressive rich guy was willing to step up to the plate in regards to Air America.
Limbaugh has been doing his thing since the late 80's. He didn't make very much money at first either. But when Air America was at it's peak, they had more listenership per station than Limbaugh had. Yet, they couldn't make any money due to an advertiser boycott. As it turns out, a radio station with an anti-corporate message isn't going to make very much ad revenue from corporate America. Oops.
But I gotta tell ya, compared to the way things looked 10 years ago, there's no comparison. You couldn't find a progressive voice anywhere. Now we got our own cable TV channel! It doesn't get the ratings of Fox, but establishing an audience takes time...
...of course, another reason for the lower viewership is that conservatives wake up in the morning and go to bed at night. They have these nice things called "jobs", and listen to the radio on their lunch breaks.
Liberals on the other hand, wake up at noon, drag ass until 4 pm, eat some nanchos until 8 pm, drink a few beers and smoke some herb until 11 pm, and then turn on the Daily Show, lol.
and look, I am not trying to be mean spirited when I say this...
Could it be that many Republican voters are more interested in politics and news than Democratic voters?
Let's be brutally honest about it. As you said yourself, conservatives (on average, there are always exceptions), tend to be high income earners with more education. They tend to stay in tune with politics more, especially because they tend to be the targets of confiscatory tax legislation and death taxes.
I think that is the real reason Conservative TV/Radio is more successful. The base is just more interested in the topic.
...it seems to me that there is a reason why Fox News is written at a 4th grade reading level. That tells you something about their base audience.
I've also posted here before 4th grade reading comprehension by state, and how that cooresponds to how those states voted in the 2004 election. I certainly see a coorelation.
I think that you're correct that a large number of wealthy people, especially in business, are conservative. Probably the overwhelming majority. But I don't think that group is large enough to account for ratings conservative media gets.
I also think that you're correct that conservatives tend to be more interested in politics than liberals. The reason for this is that conservatives have people in office that actually represents their interests.
"Fox written on a 4th grade level", PLEASE...
If you felt insulted by my last post, just say so. Some juvenile swipe at the Fox audience is just below you.
Besides, even if you were right, hell, at least their engaged, which is more than I can say for a lot of the left, thus back to the ratings problems they have...
As a bit of a talk radio junkie, I always have it on in the office. Some of the more successful progressives on talk radio has gone one to have their own TV programs.
A favorite of mine still is Mike Malloy. His demented sense of humor is always good for a laugh.

He stutters quite a bit. Seems like a nice guy, just a few IQ points short of 100.
I will tune in again tomorrow and retract if I am incorrect.
That show is a perfect remedy for my road rage. I just can't stop laughing.
