The Depression was real cool with 25% unemployment leading into a World War where 50,000,000 died. More Americans dies in one day of Normandy than in the last 5 years. Better time?

If he was referring to his grandfather, he isn' referring to the period leading up to '68. His grandfather may have been alive then, but that wasn't the time that his grandfather was working, etc.
If the guy on the informercial is in his 40's he was born in 68, give or take a few years. His grandfather would have been the WW II generation.
In any event, the period from 45 to 68 is hardly the ideal that the left embrasses, considering that a good 19 years, from 45 to 94 would be more properly classified as relating to the 50's.
(I know I expanded the decade, but the 60's as an "era" did not begin on 1-1-60. The things that distinguished it were late in the decade. The same thing holds true for 1948, for example. That would be more typical of the 50's)
The 50's are the decade that the left has always made fun of - Ike, squeeky clean kids, Father Knows Best, complacency. I was there and part of it. I remember the derision heaped upon those years, which are suddenly so golden.
Both pretty much lived in poverty up till that time.
Some on the left might denigrate the '50s, but like the 60s, the economy was growing at almost a double-digit rate, and when the guy mentions his grandfather, that's what he'd likely he'd be referring to.
BTW, the economy was growing like that with marginal tax rates that topped out at 99 percent.
