CNN: Walz Is Scared To Debate JD Vance

Pundit Bad Hombre’s take on the article:

According to aides that spoke to CNN, Tim Walz is having a hard time keeping his nerves under control for Tuesday's debate with JD Vance. Aides say Walz has expressed a lack of confidence in his ability to go up against a "trained lawyer-type" like Vance.

Walz is also feeling pressure that a bad performance will disappoint Kamala Harris who has already privately expressed frustrations with Walz's awkwardness and blunders on the campaign trail, such as referring to her as a "prostitutor."

Gwen Walz is angry that her husband is being put through the humiliation of debating Vance.

The joy is gone.
From CNN:
Tim Walz is telling people he’s just as nervous about facing JD Vance as he was the Sunday afternoon in August when he warned Kamala Harris in his running mate interview that he was a bad debater.

Maybe more nervous, according to multiple people who’ve spoken to him.
He doesn’t take questions from reporters and rarely comes to chat off the record on his campaign plane. Aides declined requests for even a brief interview with CNN.

As they monitor how Vance has been fencing with reporters in Q&As after his many events, Walz aides know their approach risks Walz getting rusty.

Their hands are tied, multiple people involved acknowledge: The vice president’s staff doesn’t want a contrast that would highlight how few unscripted events Harris has done.

Campaigns always try to lower expectations before debates.

NEW: CNN’s Scott Jennings calls Tim Walz a “buffoon,” makes fun of him for bragging about how none of his students went to Ivy League colleges.

“This guy, he's the only school teacher in America who brags that none of his students can get into an Ivy League school.”

“He's had one consequential press interaction with our Dana Bash who asked him about the fabrications in his own resume.”

“His answer was essentially, ‘you know, me no understand words good.’”

“I mean, he is a buffoon.

Walz has been claiming that Vance abandoned his lower class roots by going to an elite college.  Walz has boasted that none of his students ever went on to an elite college.  Now to many of us, this does seem like a strange thing to be proud of, but I expect Walz will continue this line of attack in the debate.

I predict a draw. Walz is a likable doofus but people of both parties can relate to him. He's an everyman. That said, he's gaffe-prone.
Vance is a very smart but robotic sociopath. He'll be on point but won't connect with viewers.
Thus, a draw.

I also predict that Vance will use his time to attack Kamala's past policies and how she is now flip-flopping, so voters cannot believe what she says.  Even Bernie Sanders recently agreed.  No reason to attack Walz.  He's just an accessory for Kamala.

Both VP candidates also have to prove they can step into the shoes of the President . . . . . Vance because of Trump's age, and Walz in case Kamala is impeached.

She hasn't been elected yet, let alone inaugurated yet, let alone done anything impeachable in office yet.
PS: There's a pretty good chance the Dems will take control of the House. So are you suggesting she'll get impeached by her own party? LOL.

the Dems will take control of the House?"   Did some drunk tell you that because you bought him a drink, or what?  Lol

It makes sense for Vance to focus on Kamala.  I think Walz may focus on Trump, 2025, fine people, the usual lies.

Dems are leading are within the margin of error, just like in 2016.  IMO, if Harris wins, the close ones will go to Dems, but if Trump wins, he will carry many of these down-ballot contests over the finish line, just like he did in 2016.

The right, regardless of how bad Vance does will say he won..no matter what. They'll never admit he lost. So Vance will win in their eyes.
The left will say that Walz won with a little reservations.
So it'll be a draw and he'll be playing Monday Morning QB tomorrow

Dan Abrams of NewsNation and Mediaite:

Any honest broker will tell you Donald Trump had a pretty terrible debate with Harris and that she did very well, while now Walz is having a pretty terrible debate with Vance and that Vance is doing very well.
It doesn’t dictate who to vote for but both debates have had a clear winner and loser.

Because it sounds like the end of the debate was catastrophic for Vance. And Trump.

I caught parts of the debate. From what I did see, I would give the edge to Vance. But Walz went into it with lowered expectations, and he met that bar. I don’t see it impacting the result of the election.

And Walz beats him by a neck...That Jan 6th democracy question sank Vance. I think what Walz said to Vance about Pence, "Oh that's why you're here"...dagger. Vance couldn't answer the who won the election.
So from here on out, relive Jan 6th coup, make ads and run them 24/7 to death
Fuck Immigration, inflation and all the noise...Run that Jan 6th moment with that cop's head caught between the door.
Vance is smooth, Gavin Newsom smooth. Walz was folksy...more genuine
But that's me...

You are as delusional as Rachael Maddow. To quote the reprehensible icky D she can go eat a bag of dicks.

Pro tip when you accurately point out the source, your not stealing other people’s lines.

Anyway, to quote someone else Reprehensible (you not happy) 😲

Vance mopped the floor with walz from question one onward.

Regardless of the outcome of the upcoming election, Vance is now well positioned to win the Republican nod for 2028 presidential nomination -- much to the displeasure of establishment Republicans.
