A city councilman in California has suggested that a tax on email may be a wise way to help fund the United States Postal Service.

According to CBS San Francisco, Berkeley city councilman Gordon Wozniak made the comments Tuesday as city officials moved to halt the sale of a Post Office building due to a decline in business.

"There should be something like a bit tax. I mean a bit tax could be a cent per-gigabit and they would still make, probably, billions of dollars a year," he said. "And there should be, also, a very tiny tax on email."

Because it is not going to happen!
It has never been proposed!
It is just a lie being circulated on the mischief makers and the uninformed.

A city councilman does not have ANY authority to levy this tax.

How would you enforce such tax?

Is spam included? Who pays the tax, the sender or recipient?
