Right now Romney is the odds on favorite at -150, but there is a betting line on a whole host of ridiculous choice even including Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton at well over  100-1. but no action at all on Palin, So even the bookies realize that NO ONE would be so dumb as to bet on Palin for SOS. I know, unemployment is at 4% with over 1/4 of the populace no longer even looking for "the employment."  
Sometimes I wonder whether unemployment rate was invented with only one thing in mind: to make a politician in power look good. Who cares what the unemployment rating is if it doesn't include total number of unemployed?  

The actual number should be calculated by getting (the total number of "non currently working") - (senior citizens on Social Security & those on disability) - (adolescents under certain agreed upon age) - (those whose family income exceeds certain value (as in "those who don't need to work")). Then we really would get an idea of how the economy is doing.

Which would be to calculate the actual "employment" rate and not the "unemployment" rate which is so much easier to manipulate as this current administration has proven.  

Using the filters you suggest would be helpful in calculating the true employment rate as well.

Anyone who believes the true unemployment rate is anything close to 4% is delusional.

so there has been an increase in minimum wage jobs... which are not sufficient at 40 hours a week to cover rent utilities and food. so you get a second job. which means a second instance of employment.

Meanwhile good paying jobs available to American citizens are going extinct thanks to the H1B visa - just ask anyone from Disney who got their pink slip this year. Disney of all places

Tell me how someone who was making $112.50/hour as a high end CGI programmer can come close applying for a job at Burger King? Because the former are the jobs we are losing to the H1B visa and the latter are the ones being counted as new jobs being generated.

I knew too many people in that industry who were moved out, their options not picked up, having been replaced at 1/5th the salary by some eager beaver from a Third World training center holding an H1B visa.

For every Silicon Valley employee with stock options making them paper millionaires, you have thousands of people working two jobs or more just to pay the rent.

Parity is a myth when it comes to employment statistics. A spin doctors nightmare.
