Chrysler, in which Fiat has a 58.5 percent stake, said on Tuesday it had agreed to make Jeeps in China with Guangzhou Automobile Group (601238.SS).

Fiat is trying to offset a slump in European sales by targeting fast growing markets in Asia and Latin America. The Italian firm and Chrysler lag far behind other foreign carmakers in China, where consumers bought 19.3 million cars last year.

"We expect production of around 100,000 Jeeps per year which is expandable to 200,000," Marchionne, who is also CEO of Chrysler, said on the sidelines of a conference, adding production could start in 18 months.

Yes, there is. Why can't Chrysler manufacture them here, and export to China? Keeps Americans working. After all, American taxpayers paid big bucks to keep Chrysler in business.

........have manufacturing plants here because labor costs are much lower in the U.S. than in Japan or Germany.  It's interesting that Japan and Germany do not compete with China in terms of exports. They both manufacture high value(machinery, high tech) products that the Chinese need to produce their low value products.

The auto workers, rail freight, and stevedores. That would hurt Chryslers bottom line.

I think Jeep customers would absorb that cost, I still say build them here, let the customer pay more.

What we should do is sell China, LNG vehicles. I bet Chineses made Jeeps won't pass EPA standards.

The United States assesses a tax of only 2.5 percent on imported cars, sport utility vehicles and minivans, while China imposes so many taxes on imported models that a Jeep Grand Cherokee that begins at $28,120 at dealerships in the United States costs $85,000 or more in China.

And by the way Timbow I'm really excited to see what Romney and  Ryan are going to do on Tuesday Day 1--I can hardly wait. Man they vanquished the fuck out of Obama that black dictator who is taking away our assault rifles that can pump eleven rounds into five year olds.

I am so fucking excited. Anne will make a great fucking white blond princess in the White House.  Can't wait to see who her social secretary is.  Maybe she'll be smart and borrow someone from Buckingham palace.

And the math is sensational. President Romney will double the defense budget and add 5.5 trillion to the deficit for a total of 7-8 trillion except he has no way to do that.
