This just might make your day a little brighter!!

You, who worry about democrats versus republicans -- relax, here is our real problem.

In a Purdue University classroom, they were discussing the qualifications to be President of the United States.  It was pretty simple. The candidate must be a natural born citizen of at least 35 years of age. However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair was the requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her opinion was that this requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president.

The class was taking it in and letting her rant, and not many jaws hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating "What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by C-section?"

Yep, these are the same kinds of 18-year-olds that are now voting in our elections! They breed and they walk among US...

Lord--we need more help than we thought we did!

If administered fairly (which would be impossible all by itself), then it would effectively eliminate the vast majority of Republican voters, and would eliminate Bachmann's chances of winning any office anywhere in the land.

The reality is that, as Paul Weyrich so noted, Republicans are more likely to win, if fewer people vote. Why? Because reactionary nutcases and religious fundies are highly motivated to vote. Everyone else, not so much.

Anyone who wants to limit who can and can't vote, are just trying to guarantee Republican victories.

If we look at the net result of what these reactionary voters decide, then you would have to conclude that they make shitty decisions, just by looking at the results.

A better option would be to maximize voter participation. Everyone should vote. You should be fined for not voting, but you should have the ability to vote a bid of no confidence. If no confidence wins the majority, the candidates running should be barred from that election, and the process should start all over again.

Besides, the purpose of voting isn't to make good decisions. It's to allow people to have a say in their representation. If stupid people want lousy representation, then that is their right.

is morons who think that 3 year old urban myths illustrate a need for change in the democratic processes.

Yes, I know...you saw it on a website so it has to be true.

she was saying what I thought she was saying. And then twice again to realize that no one blinked at her gross misunderstanding!

You're right - it's scary that these are the "leaders" of tomorrow!

And if you believe that is true, an intelligence eligibility requirement will keep you from voting as well. Probably for the better.
