I can assure you that Al Qaida has not had to DIVERT resources from elsewhere to make mischief in Iraq.  They merely are using the ADDITIONAL resources that they are collecting in the Arab world as a result of our Iraq invasion, to fund THEIR Iraq operations.  These are resources THEY WOULDN'T HAVE, if WE hadn't invaded Iraq.  

If we never invaded Iraq, Al Qaida's leadership would likely be scurrying for the few safe caves in Afghanistan that were still left.  But instead, our Iraq invasion has invigorated Al Qaida's allies in Pakistan so as to allow them to survive the times when coalition troops had them "cornered" (to use the words of Parvez Musharref, not me).

Bush nearly completely abandoned the REAL anti-Al Qaida mission in favor of the Anti-Saddam mission.  And he's got Saddam.  What he DOESN'T have is a safe, stable Iraq, OR a crippled Al Qaida.  Nonetheless, our MISSION is ACCOMPLISHED!  I know that because I saw a big banner that said so on the Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincon when Bushie played dress-up in his flight suit.

Your just trying to justify the war after the fact.

Kind of like saying the crime rate went down in Chernobyl
after the nuclear accident.  Positive side effect that has
nothing to do with anything.

Because the U.S is in Iraq, whoever those people are, are
killing U.S. soldiers and citizens.  

That's not good.  Try to come up with something better.

If al Qaeda activities were currently only in Iraq and against US forces I might be willing to agree. You'd have to show me their activities over the past several years (perhaps 1995 - present) to convince me. They seem to be more active outside the middle east, but that's a knee jerk gut response. How about some facts?

and the opportunity presents itself.  Maybe the war in Iraq has made a difference on the activities of Al Qaeda and it's affiliates, but it is probaly too early to tell at this point.  The bombings in Spain and Saudi Arabia and the recent attempt at an attack in Jordan would indicate that terrorist organizations that are affiliated with Al Qaeda are active.
