There isn't enough detail in this short article but it seems that some of the pre-2016 actions were illegal (e.g., failing to renew a search warrant before continuing the surveillance) at that time but many were not. Some of the pre-2016 actions would be illegal today but were not illegal at that time.

The Post also says, "The whereabouts of the ***alleged*** thick binder are unknown." I suggest that they look in Trump's Mar-a-Lago bathroom.

Trump accused Obama of being an illegitimate President due to not being a natural born citizen. Trump had gone all in on this, for better or worse, claiming Obama was born in Kenya. I’m not sure off hand if the Supreme Court has ever ruled on this to clearly define the language of this clause of the Constitution, but after the issue nagged Obama for years he finally produced a Hawaiian birth certificate. Whether that was fake or not, I don’t know. Trump didn’t let up on this and did one of the late night comedy shows, Jimmy Kimmel I think, of “celebrities read mean tweets” and read a Trump tweet about this and said, “well at least I am a President which is something you’ll never be” or something along those lines and did a mic drop. Only for Trump to win the Presidency a few months later, making Obama look stupid. It was with that dynamic that Obama got the CIA to spy on Trump’s campaign, starting the whole Russia collusion conspiracy theory.
Now if that sounds petty and ridiculous, it is. It’s like we’re governed by people with the emotional maturity of a donut.

Look, as far as I know the Supreme Court has never ruled on precisely what is a natural born citizen. If your parents are American and you’re born over seas are you a natural born citizen? If one of your parents are and the other isn’t are you a natural born citizen? I don’t know precisely what the law says here. But regardless, the issue certainly got under Obama’s skin. It seemed to piss him off enough to get the CIA to spy on Trump’s campaign.

Yes Trump went in on the northern movement. I’ve never believed that Obama was born in Kenya. The Hawaiian Birth certificate if I remember had something wrong with it and that led to the newer conspiracy theory that Obama was the son of Frank Marshall not the Kenyan.
The whole exchange where Obama roasted Trump was at the White House corespondents dinner and yeah… it was brutal. Trump was sitting there seething!

Want more petty? After the invasion Osama bin Laden left Afghanistan, went to Saudi Arabia, sought an audience with king of Saudi Arabia.
