GOP Civil War ?

I tried to start this one under another post. But I believe there is enough meat to merit its own thread.

As current GOP leaders look for thier next paycheck there is a lot of backpedaling and defection among Bush's mindless minions.

Current data suggest the Republicans can lose up to as many as 37 seats. Isnt this what its really all about. Another Republican leader would only hamstring the country for another 4-8 years.

The question was "What would Barry Goldwater be saying about John McCain right now?".

Its a relevant question to any Republican. If your backing McCain right now. Its a tough one.

No one in the republican party has had a new idea in the last 30 years and people are now seeing the disastrous results of actually following such  a neanderthalic public policy. IF there's no civil war to bring about some new ideas and a new coalition for the republican party, I don't think they will survive very much longer. Personally, I think that would be a great thing as it would provide a space for others to challenge the democratic party and take the national dialog to some place other than tax cuts. We have far more pressing problems than taxes right now and we aren't addressing them because that's all the republican party has to offer in opposition to the democratic party.

It's be great if the republican party could be weaned from its reliance on southern racists, religious nuts, and free market fundamentalists. We could sure use some leadership in that party that understands that businesses exist (presumably) to promote the general welfare as well as individual gain. At least that's what Adam Smith claimed.

That you were a 'real' Republican and the reason you were supporting BHO was due to McCain's choice of Palin, ashe would probably not last 4 years.

What would Barry Goldwater be saying right now about the McCain Campaign?

Sorry. I wasnt entirely clear.

Im only bringing it up as a matter of historical perspective, since Barry is dead.

IMO thats exactly what Republicans need to provide a clean break with a failed administration. To do anything less is going to be percieved as less than honest.

Someone needs to redifine our ideals or or you can take the G out of GOP.

"Another Republican leader would only hamstring the country for another 4-8 years."

Sounds to me like a new/different reason to vote BHO.

Actually, the only conservative concept I've seen you put forward dealt with the Second Amendment.

Still no win for the GOP. Unless there is some obscure law on the books to hand it to MCsame.

As a Presidential Candidate, Senator Obama has changed his stance on gun control to something I can live with. As he must.

I agree his position as a junior senator was totally unacceptable. IMO Its two different arenas; he was trying to get guns out of the hands of gangs and such. A noble if naive pursuit.

Goldwater was a Republican who was known as Mr Conservative and transformed the party in the sixties.

The situation was similar to what is going on now. A second Goldwater is going to happen its just a matter of time. IMO

If it wasnt for Goldwater there would have been no Reagan.

Im not sure where your coming from by insinuating a lack of conviction on my part.

BTW no one has answered my question yet.
