Topically this belongs on the P&R board, but I think it's important to a wide variety of folks on here who may not read that board very often.
With the elections coming up there is something everyone on here can do to get LE off our backs - VOTE! Libertarian candidates are the most obvious choice, but there are many others who are either outspoken in their beliefs that some vice laws need to become history or believe it but keep a somewhat low profile. Everyone needs to do their own research on the candidates in their area and what they believe. Hopefully some folks will get together on the TER City forums and research/recommend local candidates (City, County, State, Congressional).
Libertarian Candidates - Something like 97% support elimination of vice laws. They're almost always a safe choice on this issue. If you're not in a swing state or your preferred presidential candidate is predicted to loose your state then this is an excellent year to vote your conscious without wasting your vote.
Constitution Party - About 50% support either full elimination or significant reductions. Yes, many in this party are conservative Christians, but many also believe that civil government has very limited and specific functions and that personal morality is not one of them.
Republican Liberty Caucus - This is a fast growing group within the Republican Party. An estimated 80% support elimination of vice laws. Find out who they've endorsed in your area and then find out that candidate's position.
This is an Economic as well as a personal freedom issue. Governments from City to Federal spend a huge amount of money investigating, arresting, prosecuting, defending, and incarcerating folks for personal morality. If there were ever a time that we can't afford it, now is that time.
Normal political discussion I would agree, but this is not a partisan issue but one that is important to everyone on this board and does, I believe, fit with the purpose and spirit of General Discussion.
I do work for a number of politicians. The number of people voting for Ron Paul, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, and others with similar views has a significant bearing on the party platforms of both the Dems and Repubs as well as what candidates get endorsements and what individual candidates positions are. Maybe you like the current state of things in the US, having to be furtive about stuff, worrying about getting busted, people getting their faces up on LE websites and billboards, cops calling home asking questions of whomever answers the phone, and on and on.
There are a group of Democrats who have been trying for several years to get something going for Libertarian leaning Dems. The Democratic Freedom Caucus is the core of this effort. They have struggled to get a foothold in the party and last I heard had about 13 members in elected positions, all in state legislatures. Their platform does support the discontinuation of vice prohibitions and voters should encourage their elected officials who are Dems to support the DFC platform.
Whether we agree with you or not is moot. Take it where it belongs, this kind of blatant political pandering doesn't belong here. It's no better than spam.
Mod, please banish this guy to the TER leper colony, The P&R Board.
truly full of shit (that means yourself)! This garbage does NOT belong here and neither do you, loser. You are right about one thing: we don't read the P&R board because we don't give a shit about it just like we don't give a shit about you. That's my story and I"m sticking to it...... you P-U-T_Z!
