Why is it that the conservative pastors closely affiliated with the Republicans and preaching sexual morality and family values are the ones most likely to be caught and arrested for sex crimes, such as rape, sexual abuse, adultery, and pornography, especially against children.

Seriously, I've been asking the same question, though.  This pattern has been holding only too  well.  To Democratic and liberal advantage, I'll add.  It could be a conspiracy.  It could be just that we are witnessing some kind of psychological correlation no one could see before modern media and with a culture sensitive to sexual abuse.    

It does lead me to ask the question: does this pattern hold in Conservative Islam as well?  Or in Judaism?  Are there bombs waiting to be set off in those religions?

Though, what surprises me is how consistent what you've said is turning out to be.  It also means that the conservative Christians are going to be a drag on Republicans, and whatever political party "owns" them will have drunk poison.  

We might be seeing an end to politically active conservative Christians.  For them, the high-profile is the worst thing, so it might be mutual.

Maybe it's premature, but if it is happening, the US, and yes, the world will be better for it.

Here's the essential problem: The teaching of hatred for others is ingrained within the HOLIEST writings and literatures of all three major monotheistic religions.

Religion in its purest dogmatic form teaches intolerance and hatred.

- Arabs teach their children that Jews are animals
- Christian leaders use lies and deception and simply REEK of hypocrisy. Especially where sex is concerned!
- Jewish children are taught to kill every last Amalekite.

Hatred is not genetic, it is taught. Hypocrisy is not genetic. Its indicative of a lack of integrity. Duh.

Stop teaching hate, start acting with integrity, find some common ground, and then maybe we can talk. Until then, no "road map" will ever lead anywhere but down.

There's so much variation in every religion that it's obvious people can interpret it any way they want.  The texts are always so old and origin obscure that they're a political & social Rohrsach test.

The problem is more the way people choose to interpret it.  There's always monks who go off and deal with it personally; but there's also always groups who choose to use it as a political tool.

The problem is that groups that use religion as a political tool are very competitive in the sense that it's an easy and effective way to set people against each other.   Think of it as population control, which would of course be a serious problem if people didn't compete seriously.

And do you doubt that rationalists will compete by telling people who can and cannot reproduce?  And do you think that they'll be any better at it than the Soveits were with economics??

People bring to these scriptures what they want to see; usually turn a blind eye or consider what they don't like consider whole sections to be a "dead letter."  This includes fundamentalists who apply old testament teachings about homosexuality, but don't follow the kosher laws, don't apply the dress code, and don't circumsize themselves.    

The character of Yahweh/Jehova/Allah is an insane, demented, forgetful, vain and murderous thing.  He strikes people down by the tens of thousands.  Even with the trinity to blur this, there is no way around this fact.  Look at the Bible, how many "plans" has this character had, starting with the Garden of Eden: plan A.  By the time you get to the 2nd Covenant, he has changed plans 5 times, never for a good reason, either.    

He commanded Saul to murder the Amelikites, and had Saul killed when he showed some mercy.  The Amelikites, BTW, occur again in the book of Esther; they are not considered extinct by Orthodox Jews.  To this day, Orthodox Jews follow the command to *murder* Amelikites "on sight."  

It might be a fiction, but this is approving of genocide-- as a policy.  

These scriptures were originally a political tool, but the tribes and nations they refer to have long since passed away.  Believers trying to reinterpret scripture strictly come up with the most twisted and bizarre politics, not to mention bizarre, demented behavior.    

The think problem is not be with religion itself.  Unlike many atheists, I'm convinced that humankind will always have religions. I would contend, though, that the problems are inherent in scriptural based religions. This goes back to where reading and writing were rare skills, and setting something down in writing inspired awe.  This awe could then be used to leverage influence.  

This lingering awe of scripture destroys flexibility of reasoning and freeze religions in moral laws that are out of date by a millennium or more.

it will shift form to accomodate what people are comfortable with.  Windows/information technology may be big someday, but for the next few millenia, I think that psychiatry has it locked up.  The old conventional theistic stuff staarted dying with Galileo, and the 20th century pretty much ruined it.  Birth control, nuclear devices, all that stuff makes it too hard to believe the Pope or anything written in Elizabethan English, let alone some obscure mideast dead language.

They are most likely to get arrested for sex crimes because they commit a fatal error, thinking that the walls of the Church will protect and sheild them from reality and consequences.
