... Suppose congress passed a bill with recommended timetable only and Bush Vetoed that.  NOW, suppose congress said "OK" and did not resubmit meeting Mr Bush's demands.

How does Mr Bush fund the war (in a legal way)?

Remember, this would not shut down the government (remember Clinton and Knute).

Yours in puzzlement.

He could not continue for very long. I have been saying this very same thing for MONTHS now.

The Dems have to do nothing and the money will eventually dry up. Sure, Bush could move other Pentagon money around for awhile, but not long.

The Dems HAVE the ability the end the war, and EVERYONE (who knows how things are actually funded) knows it, but I don't think (as most others don't think) they have the BALLS.

You may be right.

However, do the Dems lose anything by not giving Mr Bush what he wants?  I'm not sure they would pay much of a political price for doing so.  Once Mr Bush is forced to draw down troops, congress could pass a series of resolutions to fund closely specified military activities.  This would have the effect of limiting Mr Bush's options as Commander in Chief.  That might not be a bad thing.  The current administration has had little or no success in Iraq on a strategy or policy basis.

This is just the initial posturing. This "war" between the president and congress hasn't even started yet.
