this is not all together true. this is what happens.
there is an area where the gay males cruise but so much illegal activity happens there that the police and the courts/DA use there legal powers to close down that business. now what happens is the gay crowd looks online and find another place and then they call it a gay cruising spot. now with this new place it attracts all kind of people and many do not know it was placed on a board as a gay cruising spot . all they know is that many people hang out in that area.
most of the time guys go into those booths not for a gay encounter but to check out a movie whey are having a dry spell or need something different. some places people have drill holes into THE BOOTH TO MAKE WHATS CALLED GLORY HOLES.you do not know who in the other booth of the video arcade. it use to be some women would go into the booth but since cruisersiers flag the store as a gay cruising spot its gets overrun by guys.

When visiting San Francisco in my twenties and fresh from the Midwest of my childhood, my cousin and I decided to see what these things were all about. We spent about twenty minutes tossing coins into our respective booths and basically having a good laugh over the movie offerings. Little did I know the booths were not just places where the lonely went to rub one out, they were places where gay men met for quick, anonymous sexual encounters. Luckily, it was the middle of the day when we did this and the booths were empty, but I can imagine how ugly the surprise would have been if upon entering these completely dark wanker lockers, somebody would have grabbed me or pressed his manhood up against me expecting I was looking for the same thing he was.
