Waste of Trump's time, and more importantly United Technologies' time

Carrier manufacturers a commodity product. It's not rocket science, but a simple assembly line. If price is the primary differentiator, then you have to manufacture at the lowest cost. Those jobs belong in Mexico. Same reason low end manufacturing belongs in China, Vietnam and other countries.  

Now UTX manufacturers jet engines through its Pratt & Whitney division. Those are highly skilled manufacturing jobs that you not only want to keep in the U.S., but grow. It's just a basic difference between highly value add and no value add like Carrier.
