Buried beneath Trump’s trashing of Sessions and Comey in the NYT interview is his incoherent explanation of why pre-existing conditions are so tough:

TRUMP: Nothing changes. Nothing changes. Once you get something for pre-existing conditions, etc., etc. Once you get something, it’s awfully tough to take it away.
HABERMAN: That’s been the thing for four years. When you win an entitlement, you can’t take it back.
TRUMP: But what it does, Maggie, it means it gets tougher and tougher. As they get something, it gets tougher. Because politically, you can’t give it away. So pre-existing conditions are a tough deal. Because you are basically saying from the moment the insurance, you’re 21 years old, you start working and you’re paying $12 a year for insurance, and by the time you’re 70, you get a nice plan. Here’s something where you walk up and say, “I want my insurance.” It’s a very tough deal, but it is something that we’re doing a good job of.

This actually is more descriptive of life insurance where premiums are real low at the start and your beneficiaires get a nice benefit at your death.

But never fear- as Trump also explained in the interview, he knows a lot about health care:

This health care is a tough deal. I said it from the beginning. No. 1, you know, a lot of the papers were saying — actually, these guys couldn’t believe it, how much I know about it. I know a lot about health care. [garbled]

Modern medicine could probably keep a healthy person kicking to the age of one hundred and twenty years old, or older.

Is that what you want?

Call me practical, but I don't see the logic behind that.

Have you figured out away to pay for a product that the majority of the people do not want the majority of the time?

I'll have a little sympathy for you if you are under the age of twenty  five?  I'll even send you a big green pacifier if you are. If your older, I'll have even more sympathy for you and will feel bad.

Modern medicine does keep a healthy person alive to one hundred and twenty years old. I agree. You are right. Some live even older nowadays. I admire that you are practical and logical.

He is not the most eloquent speaker and everyone knows how dumb he is.

So lets look at the thoughts of a HC insurance genius, who is one of the most eloquent speakers ever:

"A mandate means that in some fashion, everybody will be forced to buy health insurance. ... But I believe the problem is not that folks are trying to avoid getting health care. The problem is they can't afford it. And that's why my plan emphasizes lowering costs."

Hmmmm....So they cant afford the mandate Mr Obama, which is why you excluded a mandate in your plan, but then you decided to force them to buy the insurance, which of course they couldn't afford according to you, and then you chose to call it the "Affordable" Care Act.

Got it.

Having medical insurance is of little use to a corpse.  Just as having a brain seems to be of little use to you.

I'm against being forced to buy health insurance the is no product that can insure your health.

You can pre pay to use health care services but if you don't get sick, you just wasted your money.

If you look at the facts instead of your beloved Republican talking points. Stop me when we get to someone who can’t afford health insurance

1. 70% or about 155 million of workers get ACA complaint insurance through their employers. Costs there have increased modestly since the enactment of the ACA. So the bulk of the population has affordable insurance, right?

2. Persons who qualify for expanded Medicaid also can afford their health insurance right, since Medicaid is largely free. States that chose not to expand- that is not on Obamacare.

3.  That leaves about 10 to 12 million who buy ACA insurance on the exchanges. But persons from the expanded Medicaid limit to those making about $50,000 a year get subsidies to pay for a significant part of their insurance. So the insurance is affordable for them.

So who is left from that 10 to 12 million that actually have trouble paying about $500 to $700 a month for ACA insurance? I guess those making $50,000 to $70,000 could make that argument since they don’t get subsidies and would rather spend that money on HBO and Hazelnut lattes at Starbucks.   But that is about it – a fraction of the total insured population.

The facts are your friend Jack. I'd say the Affordable Care Act is well named, wouldn't you?

Note that it is not called the "Affordable Care Act For Every Singe Person in the Country."

And yet you skimmed right over "Mr. Eloquence's" incoherent take on the individual mandate. Your silence is duly noted.

But I will play your "move the goal post" game as I am in a jovial mood. LOL

Seems like someone is taking a little stroll through facts and doesn't remember his history too well so let me help you.

The law was designed for several purposes, some of which being providing insurance to the uninsured, lower premiums, especially for families, and per Obama, be "universal" in nature:

"Well, let's talk about health care right now because the fact of the matter is that I do provide universal health care."

That comment turned out to be false as 30 million are still uncovered.

The lower premiums went to the "affordability" you mention, as Obama told us the old system was out of control with its rising premiums. So what did he tell us?

"The average family of four would see a $2500 premium deduction over the course of a year."

But as we all know now, not only did they NOT drop, they skyrocketed. So, if they were "unaffordable" pre-ACA, and MORE costly post-ACA....ummm.....see where I am going with this? LOL

Lastly, if I didn't destroy your feeble points already, as I have pointed out many times in the past with many polls, the uninsured, by a ratio of 2-1, disapproved of the ACA. The main reason they gave?:

IT WASNT AFFORDABLE.

Game. Set. Match. Mr. Dunphy. lol

So you can’t name a single group with affordability problems?

Of course, I knew you couldn’t so it was an unfair challenge.

1. The predictions Mr. Obama made about the ACA have nothing to do with whether health insurance under the ACA is affordable. He was wrong about virtually everything. Bad Obama – I agree with you – he should be able to predict the future.

 2. And you are wrong on the facts – premiums have not “skyrocketed” for the entire insured universe  to use the cliché you hear Paul Ryan use. Premiums have “skyrocketed” only for the individual market. Premiums in the group market -70% of the total – according to the NYT have increased at historically low rates:

But while you may feel as if you’re paying more for your medical care, premiums for employer-based insurance have been increasing at historically low rates. Premiums for the average single person in the employer market are the same this year as they were in 2015, according to a large survey of employers from the Kaiser Family Foundation; prices for most family plans are rising by 3 percent.

3. Do the “skyrocketing” premiums for the nongroup market make the insurance unaffordable? No, bc you forget to mention that as premiums go up so do… drum roll…. subsidies. And 80% of those whpo purchase on the exchanges get a subsidy.

4. The “ uninsured” say ACA insurance is not affordable by a 2 to 1 margin in your polls? Duh – what do you expect.” Anyone eligible for Medicaid – and that is 1 out of every 5 Americans -  can’t afford  an ACA policy. That’s why they get Medicaid, Einstein. Exclude those beneath the expanded Medicaid line from your poll and you get a completely different result.

5. Candidate Obama changed his position on the mandate as well as other features that became part of the Affordable Care Act? Well, once he studied the problem he realized that the math just doesn’t work without a mandate so he had to change. What is “incoherent” about that?

Game, set, and match to you? Sorry, Jack but you double faulted on the first serve. But as you dream about being in bed with Paul Ryan and discussing "skyrocketing premiums," i'll leave you with one final thought- for 70% of Americans who have employer insurance, premiums have increased at "historically low rates."

Damn. Obama didn't predict that either.

The coverage mandate was forced into the ACA by the Republicans cowtowing to the insurance lobby.  The idea is that if you are going to force insurers to lose money on some policies, you should make it up by more business.  Stated like that, it made sense.  However the Republicans sabotaged that deal by also including language that the penalty for not buying health insurance was a minor penalty on your tax return, which in most cases was a lot less than coverage premiums.  So a lot of well off young healthy folks just chose paying the penalty instead of buying health insurance.

That is the single worst problem with the ACA.  Fix that by making the penalty onerous and the ACA works.
