...He stopped wearing his glasses!! It's a little late and Ben Carson stopped wearing his glasses months ago. At least Jeb wore expensive glasses that were barely visible. Carson's looked like he got them at Costco.
Maybe it's subconscious to voters, but looks DO matter in politics. Maybe Trump was too harsh in the way he talked about Fiorina, but he was right. Male candidates also know looks are important - Jeb went on a crash diet and lost 40 lbs. before he announced his candidacy. Christie got an operation to lose weight; didn't help much, did it? He's gonna blow up again now that he's out. Rand Paul and Trump are mocked for their hair. Rubio looks like a sweaty kid and Cruz is the embodiment of the word "dickface." In the last election, Tim Pawlenty had no chance because he looked like a twerp or a 97 lb. weakling. So did Bobby Jindal this time around. If Kasich wasn't a hunchback with a $5. haircut and cheap suits, he'd have the nomination sewn up. The only reason Romney came within 5 million votes of Obama was because he looks like a goddamn president.
Kasich is trailing primarily bc he is the ultimate establishment R in the ultimate anti-establishment year. Spiffy hair cuts and $3000 suits only go so far.
Romney was as good a candidate for Prez as there has been in my lifetime. A successful Governor in a deep blue state, numerous successes in the private sector, salvaging the Olympics, a universally well respected reputation aas a good man, devoted father and husband.
Did Romneys "look" help him? Of course. Was it the main driver of his success? No, imo.
