Let's assume the poll is correct.  Even if it is, it's not going to convince Congressional Republicans to compromise.  Why?  Because they were elected by the extreme right in gerrymandered districts created over the past few years by Republican statehouses, as part of a plan conceived by....wait for it....Carl Rove!  So they have no incentive to work with Obama and little reason to care what the majority of Americans think.  It will take a long time to re-balance this situation because rational re-districting is the only answer.  In the meantime, Obama (and even Boehner) has as much chance of convincing these people to compromise, as you have of convincing the more angry wingnuts on this board that you're correct on any issue.
PS: In this regard, it's worth noting that far more people voted Democratic in Congressional elections this year.  So it's mainly the re-districting that resulted in the Republicans maintaining control of the House, albeit with a reduced majority.
