According to the FBI, as reported by USA Today: "Overall violent crime declined 3% compared to the prior year, the FBI statistics show. Murder decreased more than 11%, while rape fell roughly 9%."
Last I looked a couple weeks ago, crime was down, but so was crime reporting. Historically, the FBI has collected crime data from every police department in the nation, they crunch the numbers and release yearly reports on crime. When I looked at this a couple weeks ago, the FBI did this for last year, but they only included 78% of all police departments. Why they left out the other 22% of departments, I don’t know, but if you don’t include the busiest departments in the country, then you can fake a declining crime rate.
