or "devil teched".

Today he is the impetus for cultural introspection, and likely subsequent legislation.

I am rather glad our forefathers constructed our self governance with dampers to knee-jerk legislation.

You are missing the point.  The reaction is actually a long-delayed one.  Newtown was simply the capper, following a long string of mass murders and pervasive gun violence.  It finally got people's attention because most of the victims were young children.  This is hardly a "knee-jerk" response.  It's long overdue.  And who cares what ignorant people 500 years ago would have thought?  Relevant? Not!

Law enforcement was asking for it ban for years. Idiots believe, they are forming militia to take on the Federal Government. Saw an interview of NRA spokes person, and that was his rationale.

The idiot should be committed in an asylum.

But, you're right. It's is a good thing that our government is designed not to succumb to knee-jerk reactions to form and implement legislation.

The military, the police, or any other branch of homeland security. Have no place in society.

for the most tendentious and wrong-headed comment I've seen today.  Obviously, af did not mean the police, etc. shouldn't have weapons.  He clearly meant private citizens should not have them.  If this is how you're going to debate, why would anyone discuss anything with you?

The urban assault weapon, or law enforcement (and I am going to lump in) the military ?

Then AF mentioned "Law enforcement was asking for it ban for years" . Yes law enforcement does not want assault waeapons in the hands of the general public. Law enforment serves in the intrest of government. Government writes the laws that LE enforces. That leads me to believe government has no intrest in listening to the opinons of LE.

A good example of legislative knee-jerk reaction, and failure of the judicial branch to compensate for its legality.

The ANTI-gun faction is certainly using the same opportunistic "threat-down" and fear mongering as the Bush Administration did.

I wonder how many people a disgruntled sports fan could run over with a 'lifted' 400+ horsepower, 4wheel drive pick-up or SUV with big off road tires and Nerf bars. I betchya 30 or more could be easily dispatched before authorities finally stop/kill the homicidal driver.
Would big, powerful 4wheel drive pick-ups and SUVs then be placed under special legislative as well as public scrutiny?

I'm not insensitive to what has happened in Newtown; But unless draconian measures and safeguards are legislated there is going to be a long term and very vigorous legal "used" market for mean looking military type semi-automatic rifles; as well as an illegal market.
The shit will cost more; but you'll still be able to get it if you really want it.
