This occurred just before the Chauvin verdict.  The middle video in the link includes unedited bodycam footage released not long after the incident occurred.  It includes the actual shooting.  There was no attempt to use non-lethal force to diffuse the situation, nor was there any advance warning of the potential use of lethal force.  The girl was shot less than 30 seconds after the police arrived on the scene.

The assailant was less than a second away from plunging a 5 inch blade into the intended victim’s gut. That cop deserves a medal.

The girl with the knife pushed the other girl up against the car, then raised the knife up over her own head while advancing towards the intended victim when the police shots were fired.  Its a righteous shoot if ever there was one.  The other girl may have survived the stab wounds, but do we really want the police to decide on balance whether someone might survive the assault before they take action to prevent the unarmed victim from being stabbed.  

The girl he was trying to "save" was in the direct line of fire and any of his shots could have struck and killed her, either directly or by passing through the victim. Most cops use hollow points, which stay inside the victim but that would be important to know.
Based on what I saw, this was a reckless shoot.

risk that paid off in this instance.  If it had turned out badly for the intended victim, don't worry, the Dems would have disemboweled him in the town square.  If he failed to act, and the victim was stabbed repeatedly and subsequently died, Dems would be calling him a negligent coward.   You can't have it both ways.  Is is better to save a life or stand there and watch an attempted murder happen?
