Not Ready to Unite

Barack had his opportunity tonight to start healing the rifts in the Democratic party and, to put it bluntly, he flopped. (CNN is giving the Barack spin, but don’t believe it.) People who attended the fundraising soiree at the Mayflower Hotel said that the One was a dud.

Hillary, ever the good trooper and team player, gave Barack an intro to her big dollar donors and an opportunity to start the healing. But Barack continues to play the role of petulant bore. He gave an uninspired, mechanical speech. The charm exhibited on the campaign trail that left women swooning, was missing in action. Folks from the Hillary camp described the speech as snobbish, arrogant, and boring. But it was Barack’s response to questions from Hillary’s supporters that produced sour bile.

1. What about the Vice President slot? The questioner told Barack that if he named Hillary as the Vice President that the Democrats would be in a position to own the White House for the next 16 years. Barack said nothing to give Clinton supporters hope that he would consider the Senator from New York.

2. Will you help Hillary retire her debt? On this one Barack said he had written a check for $2300 (note, no check from Michelle), but that his real interest was getting access to the phone lists of Hillary’s donors and contacts. Hillary supporters at the gathering sat on their hands, their checkbooks, and their lists.

3. What will you do to stop the sexist smear of Hillary? The questioner noted that Barack did nothing to quell the rampant sexist attacks on Hillary during the campaign and that she continues to be brutalized. Barack said, “Yes, I know. But there is another woman who has been brutalized as well. The healing will take a long time to fix.”
So there you have it. No vision. No magnanimous gesture. It is still all about Barack and Michelle. Most of the Hillary supporters left unassuaged. Instead of a promise from Barack to tell his supporters to stop the attacks on Hillary and her supporters, he essentially put his hands in his pockets and shrugged his shoulders.

Let’s be clear. The recently concluded Democratic party primary season does not even begin to compare to the death and horror that convulsed America during the Civil War. But the hurt feelings and anger among Hillary supporters are real. And Barack’s refusal to tackle this issue head on is but one other reminder that he is not ready to unite a nation fractured by political strife.

Obama easily beats McCain among women & Hispanics (as well as overall in the 4 states CO, MI, WI, & MN.)....

And it doesn't make one damn bit of difference if Tim Pawlenty (Governor of Minnesota) is on the ticket either, as Obama leads McCain by 17% in MN, & the majority of the people polled said Pawlenty as VP doesn't sway their vote....

2.  Senator Obama gave the Clinton campaign a check for $4600, the maximum allowed by law for him and his wife.

3. Clinton supporters have been making a lot of noise about this recently but it's really a big red herring.  The sexism toward Clinton during the campaign did not come from Senator Obama. It was mainly from the media and the Republicans. No sure how Obama has any responsibility for that.

Clinton's supporter are still getting over the pain of losing but once they get over it and come to their senses there's no way they won't support the party if Hillary wants to have any future in politics.

If Obama wins in 2008 she has no shot until 2016. Hillary, despite anything she say will be doing her very best to derail Obama's presidential run.

I just love hearing the Clinton supporters dissatifaction with Obama. I don't care how we avert an Obama win, I just care that he loses. Just like I don't mind that we were spared 4 years of Kerry because of fears of gay marriage. I don't care if Hillary is the deciding factor of a McCain win either.

As I've been predicting the Dems will figure out a way to lose this election, and lets face facts they really are too stupid to be trusted with both the legislative and executive branches of government.

Key word is "today" which is not election day. Kerry, Gore, Little Mike DoCaca, all had big leads early and lost. So what?

He loves polls, at least when they support his partisan views. What he apparently doesn't realize is that if polls were so accurate, we wouldn't bother with elections.

At least Moose, as BK pointed out  doesn't hide behind an alias.

so that state was always going to be tough going for the GOP.....MN. hasn't voted Republican in the general election since 1972...

But I do think Coleman is going to hold on to the Senate seat, he was up 10% in recent poll...

as that's impossible to do...Both campaigns will write off states that they have no chance in, ie; Republicans will never win CA., just like Democrats won't win TX...And early polling helps candiates decide where to spend their money...

Sure, I'm not getting my hopes up if Obama is leading now in Florida or Missouri, especially FL. - that will be a tough one for Obama...

Obama may not win CA. by 28%, but he will NEVER lose that state...

Those facts I'll grant you, but since when is Mn a battleground state?

It was interesting (and scary) to see these two who previously spent months cutting each other up on the campaign trail, then suddenly arm-in-arm and licking each other's backside. There must have been piles of fresh vomit galore!!
