Educating Governor Palin

It was reported last week that Governor Palin, during a visit to NYC, had  a 90-minute meeting with Henry Kissinger.  Well, it sure beats being set upon by the deranged homeless and legions of  feral marauders which make up such a large percentage of NYC's current population.

Why did HK bother?  He's really had no following in the GOP since the end of the Ford administration.  Apart from the elder Bush, James Baker and Brent Scowcroft, I doubt many want to beat a path to his door for policy advice.  Or at least not openly.  Still, he might have figured, WTF, be a good soldier and help out just in case McCain does get elected.  Perhaps HK had a secret brief to report back on any glaring gaps in the Governor's grasp of thorny foreign policy obscura, not that she'd have any of course, as she's able to see Russia from her home in Wasilla, and as Alaska does border Canada.  And think of all those countries with coastlines on the Pacific, just like Alaska!  Perhaps HK's mission was prurient, to see for himself if SP is the world-class MILF her breathless fans report her to be.

Happily for the TER comunity, a talkative fly on the wall shared some of the back-and-forth between the two.  I absolutely cannot vouch for the accuracy, but perhaps it might constitute some food for thought.  Depending upon how hungry one is, of course.

HK : Now, thinking about foreign affairs generally...
SP : Oh, no, no, no.  I'm a good Xtiam woman, and i'm also protected against witchcraft, just in case.  I could never be unfaithful to my husband Todd, with whom I've borne and raised 5 children.  Well, maybe I would give it up for Antonio Bandaras, he's from Spain.  Spain is a foreign country, right?  Well, no matter what Senator MCCain says, I'll definitely meet the Spanish PM if Banderas is part of the group.

HK : You are scheduled to meet with Colombian president Uribe?
SP : Yes, and I plan to tell him how much i love the movies he puts out.  And he also has the time to run a world-class university.  He must be quite a guy.

HK : The Chinese pose interesting challenges over the next several decades...
SP : I'll say!  Just try to find decent take-out in Wasilla. Impossible.

HK : Now, about he Afghan problem...
Sp : No problem at all.  I love big dogs.  and it's such a beautiful breed.

HK : Turning to The Monroe Doctrine...
SP : Marilyn was really, really smart to insist on top billing, her name above the title, and a percentage of the gross.

HK : The US is said to maintain a "Special Relationship" with several important countries...
SP : I'm totally against anything and everything that even hints at something like that.  As a good Xtian woman i'm totally, absolutely, and completely oppossed to the legalization or cultural legitimation of same-sex marriages and anything that smacks of non-traditional, non-heterosexual relations. "Special realationship" indeed. Take my family for example...

HK : Strategically, the importance of a second-strike capability..
SP : I know all about that.  When the first labor stopage fails, you go out on strike a second time.  Todd is a union member, and I was a proud member of AFTRA in my sportscasting days.

HK : The dialectical philosopher Hegel...
SP : Oh, they're just yummy.  I made a trip to Katz's Deli on East Houston Street and had several with cream cheese and lox. Lox tastes  just like Alaskan salmon, but without the Exxon Valdez residue.  What a great NYC nosh.  I can't wait to meet Tzipi Livni and tell her all about Hegels.

HK : ...and his most famous disciple, Marx...
SP : That Graucho was a riot.  But my personal favorite was the quiet one.  Chico, i think?

HK : "The Prince" by Machiavelli, contains many interesting insights into political beahavior...
SP : I remember that.  Prince Machiabelli used to advertise like crazy around Christmas when I was a kid.  Perfume i think it was.

HK : Thinking about the West Bank...
SP : Is that where Israeli PM Ehud Ohmert stashes his boodle and swag and graft?

And on and on and on it might have gone.  HK was unusually tight-lipped and terse when asked about his impresions.  i wonder why.

Can Hank have been inpressed?  Who knows.  With his Teutonic stolidity and Central European gravitas, I'm sure he got through the meeting without betraying any irritation or annoyance he might have felt.  Unless, of course, Governor Palin was not in Hank's eyes the world-class MILF her breathless acolytes say she is, and the meeting, if not intellectually engaging to HK, could have seemed like a very sadistic application of the Chinese Water Torture.  But, it's all just speculation for now.

So, if that was not a chat, but an interview, i wonder if HK wold have hired her for his staff when he was Nixon's NSA?  or when he was Secretasry of State?  or for any position at Kissinger Associates?  or would he have admitted her to one of his graduate courses at Harvard back in his academic days?  Or agreed to supervise her dissertation?

Well, the VP debate is Thursday.  I'll be tuning in, I'm curious to see how quick a study the Governor is, given the expert tutelage she has had.
