SOS to math wiz, on Hannity's 95M figure

In the inauguration coverage, Hannity gave good riddance to Obama, saying that he everyday reminded his audience of the 95M who dropped out of the labor force. He took credit for helping Trump win with such “dose of reality”.
I took quick look at census data which shows 70% of population at working age, thus 224M. So Hannity’s 95M number calculates to 42% unemployment, far worse than the 25% at the Great Depression.
Can y’all enlighten me math ignoramus ?

It's the U.S. Department of Labor's number from this past November's job report.

that the number was about 70 million in 2001 and 80 million at the start of the Obama presidency. So the number has increased about 5 million more during the Obama presidency than the Bush presidency.

I suspect that the very small increase is tied to the economic recovery during the Obama admin- more people who could not retire (or could not choose not to work) bc of the recession were able to do so during the last 8 years.  The only number that counts, of course, is the great drop in the unemployment rate.

But Jack's right - it is not Hannity's number but Hannity's misrepresentation of the number in his effort to blame Obama. Not sure why Hannity thinks about the small actual number every night, except to say "Curses, foiled again. But what about Rev. Wright and Bill ayers?" LOL

All that mourning has left you soft, gushy and wrong. LOL

"The only number that counts, of course, is the great drop in the unemployment rate."

Ummmmmmmmm...no.

One only needs to flip burgers for one hour a week at Laffy's church and they are considered "employed" Mari. LOL

If that is the "only number that counts", as you so ignorantly state, Hillary would have won in a landslide in both the PV and EV.

Right track/wrong track numbers for Obama were horrific, because the economy, for all too many middle class and lower, was awful and the result was a stunning Hillary loss.

I get an error from the BLS when I attempt your link. Maybe they're closed Sunday night but these work OK:

employment population ratio:
http://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/employment-population-ratio.htm

civilian labor force participation rate:
http://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/civilian-labor-force-participation-rate.htm

Of course a little math and knowledge of the corresponding population numbers will be needed to come up with Hannity's number.

Here's the actual unemployment rates, both the U3 bogus official rate and the more appropriate U6 rate:

So people did not like Hillary.
Also President Obama approval rating is near 60%.
When he left the White House.

Also more stories will be coming out about Trump's thugs and Russia thugs.
I would be very careful Jack.
Since these stories are only starting to take shape.

Had that happened, along with the long term highs around 7, 8, 9%, it would mean that every other person you met was unemployed. Many people were able to retire and willing to settle for a couple million less in their retirement fund than the dream goal they had set for themselves. Others wound up in the gig economy, or in old-fashioned lingo, self employed. Interestingly, very few up and joined the military. Wonder what that says about us. There are more homeless in many cities than there used to be, but not that many more.

So workers found other ways to make a living than punching a clock. Employers decided that private contractors were a better deal than employees who required benefits and were less easily cut back if business slowed. But the idea that every other person you've known over the past eight years were unemployed past the time their unemployment benefits ran out, in need of a job, but so depressed at their prospects that they just crawled off and sat on their hands doesn't jive with the world I've been living in. Does it reflect your world? Are half your family, friends, former co-workers all wandering the streets panhandling from the other half? I doubt it.

Hannity not only wanted to get Trump elected, long before that he wanted to prove that no government of any kind could work. His vision is one where there are no rules, regulations, laws or any other way that society can establish itself EXCEPT to be told what to do by their "boss" and the Bible. He is a champion for the ideology of corporate rule. We have taken a giant step toward that state of affairs, so we're going to see how it works out.

Have fun.

are going to tell the media what to report to make sure they get it right.

No need to do math. The numbers are on the BLS chart which is copied below since the link expired.

Think of it this way. We don’t really know why the “retirement numbers” are so high. We would expect them to increase with life expectancy increases since death wipes you from the chart. But if you are going to tie to them to a particular president’s policies, you have to look at the numbers he inherited and how much they increased during his office. That is where I get 5 million more of an increase ($15 m total) during Obama’s years.

This is what Hannity leaves out when he talks about the 95 million who dropped out of the labor force.

Look at the attached link, and then compare the U3 unemployment rate with the U6 unemployment rate. What do see? These 2 rates generally track each over time.

The U3 is the headline unemployment number you see on nightly news. It's 4.7%, but understand it's a narrow technical measure, as it leaves out a large number of people. That's where the U6 unemployment number comes in. This number includes the underemployed and the discouraged worker who is no longer looking. The U6 number is currently at 9.2% Again, U3 and U6 tend to track each over time.

Unfortunately a lot of people within the U6 category are unemployable. They either lack education, certain skills, or in the case of one of our prolific posters, a personality, charisma.

It's very simple, if you don't have people actually going back to work, just change the way you count them. lol

If there really was "full employment" as is/was claimed by both Hillary and BHO, Trump would have gotten slaughtered campaigning on jobs as no one would have cared.
