Majority of the base in both parties is in many cases worst than the Taliban!!!!!

  Atleast the Taliban have an excuse where they lived in caves, had no education, and were isolated from the world.  
  What else, other than blind allegiance do you expect for a nation where probably a majority of kids to this day couldn't find Iraq on a map, let alone Alaska. Yeh they are really going to grow up and do great things for our country!!
  Our nation, the most open and technologically advanced nation, where more information is available at any given time through the most diverse and accessible resources has produced a public where 80% probably still believe Saddam was behind 9-11.  Even the Taliban must be laughing
  As ignorat as it sounds, a majority of the blame lies directly on the public education system.

Reply: I agree. The people who blindly trust their leaders to think for them, can never be true patiots, and dont have the courage to think for thmeselves. This phenomenon is evident at this point in American history. The Republican party has become predominately the party of lemmings, who follow the leader into the jaws of destruction with their eyes firmly closed.

that also comes back to the fat-cat politicians.  It's a shame that school teachers with such difficult jobs make such lame salaries yet the beauracrats (who for the most part don't do shit) live quite comfortably.  

Regarding math in particular, its not hard to see why so many American kids hate mathematics.  There are not many high school math teachers with advanced degrees in the sciences - So, how are they supposed to instill in kids a passion for mathematics when they have none themselves.  And let's face it math is boring so how else can kids be encouraged to study it unless they have someone that can motivate them.

Sorry for the rant.  I would love to teach high school math but I cannot sacrifice the future of my family by taking such a low paying job - And I'm sure this is the case for many in all fields.

I think that political views and opinions become extreme when we fail to see people we disagree with as people anymore.  Sticking to myself, I become an extremist when people with strong religious or moral views try to inforce their views on me. I hope that someday I can get beyond that and deal with them as people.  I want to be able to disagree with them and resist there efforts, but deal with them nontheless.  

the fault isn't in our schools, but in our natures, our incapacitiy to treat each other kindly,  and our inability to do "politics" well.  Politics is essentially how groups of people deal with each other and is the most difficult and highest human calling.  It's why things like this board are important -- talking with others about issues where you are not in agreement is the most difficult and satisfying human skill.

then your contention is becoming a reality.

This war is turning really bad really fast. I admit I never cared for the current admin. but I am an Independent that is quickly leaning towards the Democratic Party. And it pushes me further in that direction every day.

And to set the record straight, next to Colin Powell, I looked at Donald Rumsfeld as a strong individual, but with the latest news of him withholding information for several months, I no longer hold him in high regard.
