There were no “fact checks” until quite recently. Off the top of my head, I don’t recall them happening before Covid. Around 2012 Obama fundamentally changed to country. If someone said something that Obama’s commissars didn’t approve of then you were cancelled. You lost your job, you lost your livelihood, sometimes you had to go into hiding. There’s an endless list of things MSM gets wrong and nothing ever happens to them because that’s the view point that Obama’s commissars approve of. This is why you get fake news like the vaccine is “safe and effective” when the truth is that it will give you cancer.

Of COURSE there were fact-checks before "quite recently." They just weren't known by that exact name. But that doesn't mea they didn't exist. The First President Bush's administration was exposed as having lied about Kuwaiti babies dying when Saddam's troops removed them from incubators. The NY Times' Judy Miller was exposed for swallowing Cheney's lies about Saddam's nuclear program. And both of these were in the last fucking CENTURY. I could go on to, say, the lies exposed by Reagan's men in Iran/Contra but you get the picture.
