I've read Krauthammer for close to 10 years. While agreeing with pretty much nothing of anything he's written, the guy does know what he's talking about and always mounts an impressively strong case for any position he argues.
And Krauthammer is no fan of the Arabs or anything even remotely Islamic. [So much so that I suspect he might become the first recorded case of attempted vehicular manslaughter using a motorized wheelchair]. But if he's not worried about this, and advocates it, I wonder if we've been fooled, once again.
Here's another thought. The UAE is one of those Arab countries that does not recognize Israel, does not allow Jews into their country, and certainly does not do business with Jews. But the United States does. so tell me, what do you think will happen the first time a Jewish businessman representing a shipment of Israeli-manufactured goods on one of the cargo ships waiting to enter port shows up? I suppose we will just have to wait and see if the Almighty Dollar holds more sway over Dubai Ports World than the bullshit of Islamofascism. Will they choose MoMoney, or MoHamhead? Inquiring minds want to know.
I saw something, I think in the Wall Street Journal, that the UAE firm is REALLY ONLY interested in the Asian end of the business and plans to divest itelf ASAP of the US component of the deal. Can't say how true this might be -- sounds like real BS spin to me -- but it's not absolutely impossible.
In any case, even though for the wrong reasons, I still enjoy like hell the prospect of GWBush being hoisted on his own petard re this deal, however brief and unsatisfying that moment may turn out to be.
If you read the linked article, you will get the big picture. Here's a tidbit that isn't specified in the article. all the ports to be controlled by DPW are petroleum import/export facilities. The only ports involved in petroleum not controlled by them will be the West Coast petroleum operations in Southern California.
It gets deeper and deeper, so put on your hightop boots folks.
Treason is defined in the US Constitution {Article III, Section 3, Clause 1 as follows : "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort." Hence, this would probably not be treason in the legal sense, but certainly in the broader, man in the street sense it would be. [Remember the American-born Taliban fighter John Lindh Walker? I think he was liable to a charge of treason, but unsure if he wa ever officially charged].
this is a crap deal but Chimpy F--d up so badly that we can't go back now. He can't go against Bush so he is finding a way to not have to oppose him. These scumbags have lied at every turn. Don't start believing them now.
