The Supremes voted 5-4 to allow the taking of a DNA sample after an arrest with "probable cause."  The rationale of the majority is it's no different than taking someone's fingerprints. Part of me agrees, part doesn't.  But the interesting thing is which way certain justices voted because it wasn't the usual 5-4 split with Kennedy as the swing vote.  This  time liberal Justice Breyer voted with the conservatives in favor, while arch-Conservative Scalia voted with the libs.  Has this ever happened before?  I can't think of a single example.  I doubt it's a portent of anything, but it's still an interesting anomaly.

I am a little more decisive with my opinion on this one.

I think it puts us even further down that slippery slope of dismantling the Bill of Rights. Once your DNA is collected, it's like the internet and it is forever. The "severity" of the crime notwithstanding I believe it seriously erodes both our 4th and 5th amendment rights, and I disagree strongly with the court's decision.

Suspects are proven innocent all the time, not to mention the number of suspects who are never formally charged. Pretty soon every one who doesn't live under a rock a thousand miles away from civilization will all be catalogued, fingerprinted and have his/her DNA in the Government's registry to be used against us whenever the next "crisis" hits. Simply being charged with a crime is not enough to strip a person of their Constitutional rights IMO

I'm troubled by it, too, but how is it different from having your fingerprints and mug shot taken?
To me it's a difference in degree, not in kind.

The ownership of ones urine was already pimped to the corporatocracy so that one cannot earn an honest Dollar unless one chooses big pharma or the alcohol industry for their individual needs or tastes. How long until a speeding ticket gives the government as well as the corporatocracy total ability to segregate, castigate, manipulate, and disenfranchise via "Jim Crow" type laws and stigmas.

Every dark dipiction ever written of the future and of its society is unfortunately coming true!

All hail the Corporate Plutocracy of New America! :(

That way they can compare it with the one collected at birth.

How else will they be able to make sure you are who you say you are?

This is old news, but I found it to be pertinent to the discussion of DNA testing/database.

Geneticists have been asked to study the DNA of Adam Lanza. The study, which experts believe may be the first of its kind, is expected to be looking for abnormalities or mutations in Lanza's DNA.

Connecticut Medical Examiner H. Wayne Carver has reached out to University of Connecticut's geneticists to conduct the study.

University of Connecticut spokesperson Tom Green says Carver "has asked for help from our department of genetics" and they are "willing to give any assistance they can."

Now here is an excerpt from the CNN article, The government has your baby's DNA

"I don't have a problem with the testing, but I wish they'd asked us first," she says.

Since health insurance paid for xxx's genetic screening, her positive test for a cystic fibrosis gene is now on the record with her insurance company, and the Browns are concerned this could hurt her in the future.

"It's really a black mark against her, and there's nothing we can do to get it off there," xxx says. "And let's say in the future they can test for a gene for schizophrenia or manic-depression and your baby tests positive -- that would be on there, too."

What if you, or your child's DNA tests posotive for the same abnormal/mutated gene, as a
"mass shooter?" -- that would be on there, too.

Something to ponder... while getting swabbed for your government mandated health insurance

on health or life insurance.  It's going to be very interesting to see what happens with mandated insurance for those that might have to choose between medicaid or affordable care.  Ga doesn't believe people are worthy of foodstamps, if they have weed in their system rather than Big Pharma drugs

Why make a strawman out of the basic fact, everyone has to be swabbed for insurance that is required under federal law.

BTW - I don't call it Obamacare, because it is a government mandate.

do you see how it's going to be not only healthcare reform, but also welfare reform too.  Remember, it's always population control.  We are going to finance our own illnesses that they already know we are going to have from our food supply and polluted acid rain waters and fish.  Now that is evil in my opinion.

I know you are interested in religion.  One day I will post my blog on my belief if there is an enemy of our soul and if God is everywhere, including inside each of us.  Be good now.  You are sure to make a lot of money once insurance is mandated on all of us.
