But unfortunately, I believe he is typical of the minority in the republican party.  They have to be so far off to the right in order to appeal to the conservative base of the party.  Just look at other minority republicans, Bobby Jindal, Shelby Steele, Clarence Thomas. They are beloved by the conservative base of the party yet are almost despised by their own community and in the case of Clarence Thomas...is despised.  They are few if any moderate minorities in any significant leadership role of the republican party other than Michael Steele.  However, I would say that was out of necessity rather than belief in his abilities.  All you had to do was look at the folks that McCain was drawing to his campaign to see that they needed to have a minority face to the party.

Getting back to Keyes...it's sad actually  because at one time, he was actually a man with ideas and principals.  Now he's just a far right zealot.  

Regarding the "Natural Born" citizen issue is was never specifically defined what a natural born citizen was in the Constitution.  However, citizenship status was addressed in title 8 of the U.S. Code.
