at Las Hadas in Manzanillo. I'll never forget it because of two things. 1) Below our balcony, a Mexican quartet was playing the longest marimba I have ever seen every evening during the dinner hour, and 2) On the rather lengthy drive from the airport, our taxi driver ran over a dog who ran in front of the car on the main highway. It took three margaritas to calm down my new bride because she turned around and looked in time to see the dog, which died instantly spinning on its side across the road.
In Acapulco, I have stayed several times at Las Brisas, a hillside hotel of individuals or duplex casitas, each with either a shared pool or a private individual pool (always opt for the private pool, only about 40% more for the room). Views are spectacular. The color theme of the hotel is pink and white and for a little more money, you can rent a pink and white open-air jeep that matches the hotel. On Thursdays, there is a caravan you can join with others who have pink and white jeeps that goes about 15 miles to a seaside coconut plantation for a day of beachside activities; donkey races (children face forward and adults ride backwards - Lol), canoe races, games, musical entertainment and a spectacular seaside fish barbeque. In the hotel restaurant, called BellaVista, when I was there the last time, they had one night where they had a two-hour dinner and show. They brought out each course from a different region of Mexico and then had costumed dancers perform a folk dance indigenous to that area. It was spectacular. There is also an excellent spa. It's my favorite place to relax and get away in Mexico and is still pretty safe if you don't stray too far away from the hotel grounds alone.
Puerto Vallarta is a favorite port of cruise ships. I have been there both as a cruise passenger and regular guest. They don't have the range of iconic resort hotels as the other cities but nice older properties popular with the Hollywood set of the 20's and 30's are interesting to visit.
Can you see the irony in YOU claiming I haven't been to all of the places I say I have.
