The relief checks are similar to government walfare.  The tie to the Arctic drilling is pure politics (given the time to extract and the low amount extractable).  And they are trying to keep a straight face about this?

How many people will really be fooled by this?

$100 comes out to shaving between $.05 to $.08 per gallon if you use roughly 25 gallons of gas per week (or a savings of maybe $.02 per gallon for those of you driving SUVs.) Since the price of gas has gone up over a dollar in the past year, I'd say that that is a pretty lame rebate.

Maybe they are responsible in some degree, maybe not.  Doesn't matter; what matters is they spend money doing useless shit like this in the face of a problem.  Misdirecting resources is one of the best reasons to run them out of town on a rail, but we all know they will all be re-elected.

(demos and repubs alike) or they are incredibly stupid, or they really are ignorant.  To think that the public will be fooled by this is insanity.

Why are these idiots wasting even more taxpayer $$ by spending their time with luny proposals like this when real issues are a plenty?

I propose that we make the Politic board of TER the legislative branch of government! lol

And like so many of the old smokestack/mass employment/heavy industries that made this country prosperous, the American RR system is pretty much kaput, so, both logically AND empirically, running them out of town on a rail is going to prove to be a task not easily accomplished.

But maybe with the help of masses of illegal immigrant labor at the ready...

Not to quibble, but would not incredibly stupid and really ignorant be pretty much the same thing for our purposes here?

And, sad to say, it's been my experience that the incredibly stupid/really ignorant act out those behaviors totally free of charge, and usually are not in the pay of anyone.  But we sadly are in thrall to their malignant ignorance and it's awful consequences for the body politic.

OOH!  Can I be Sargeant-At-Arms?  Not sure what the duties are, but it always sounded really cool to me.

Challenge for Bizarro [and any other interested party] -- form the TER Politics Board Shadow Government/Government-In-Exile.  What posters for which office and the duties incumbent upon those officeholders?

I propose A Man Like Any Other For Press Secretary/Public Information Director.

has nothing to do with railroads.   I think they used fence rails.

We are more than ready to pitch in.  We suspect that  many Mexicans who are refugees from their own conquistador govt would be more than happy to help.  The problem is in thinking this is a matter of race or ethnicity, rather than individual behavior; and unfortunately, we all have family members whose politics are totally fucked, and sometimes need to be loyal to that family before we are loyal to a DC bureaucrat - so life is full of choices, and we have to use our good judgment daily.  Nevertheless, that does not seem to warrant throwing up our hands and saying 'fuckitall'.
