The insurgency in the Capitol targeted Dense for violence, specifically hanging.  Trumpolini called for breaching the Capitol building.  Dense might take issue with Stump putting him in a position to be killed.  That might firm up Dense's Slinky spine just enough to not pardon him, assuming a Senate conviction.

Impeachment can’t be pardoned. And with a conviction the Senate can by simple majority prevent Trump from holding any other public office.  I heard also he loses sone benefits of past Presidents.

Plus there’s the state and civil actions against Trump, which a pardon doesn’t affect.

And if his followers don’t realize that by now, not even a conviction or two on federal crimes (if DOJ will even pursue it) will convince them.

Everyone else is already convinced.

Getting Trump to testify UNDER OATH in state courts and possibly even in front of Congressional committees is what I think is VERY important. Trump knows how to "testify" (i.e., lie) on Fox, OANN, and even before hostile interviewers that he can bully or walk out on. But NONE of that testimony or story telling is under oath or punishable by perjury charges.
.
I want his cult to hear it straight from Trump, under oath. "Did you lie about this? Did you lie about that? ... Despite your public denials, did you conspire with Michael Cohen to pay Stormy  Daniels hush money? ..." Ad infinitum.

Re: Small potatoes
Yeah, he'll get nailed for tax and mortgage crimes.  La-dee-dah.  I want EVERYTHING to come out to prove to the Cult how FUCKING CORRUPT he is.

The grifting from the Inauguration.  Selling pardons.  His deals with Putin.  The grifting with the virus and his bigot wall.   Tampering with witnesses.  Obstruction.  Perjury.  The list is 10 miles long.  All goes bye-bye.  We need it in the open so people really know how BAD he REALLY was.

a year ago.  A lesson for the spineless, brainless people who said that Trump would “learn his lesson” only from being impeached and conviction wasn’t necessary.

Also, impeachment allows removal of the “next one” while still in office.  With federal charges, we have to wait until they’re out of office and have a DOJ willing to pursue it.  Sooner the better IMO.

His lawyers will make him because they know he's so bad under oath and won't be able to help perjuring himself. Also, he's too lazy to really study (which is known as "Dep Prep," or Deposition Preparation). So he'll repeat, over and over, "I invoke my 5th Amendment Privilege Against Self-Incrimination."

...he didn't lie for the first time in his life.  His 5A comment about mobsters is also full-blown projection.  That is no shocker.

except arguably himself or herself?  Why should impeachment matter as to whether a President can pardon someone?

I didn't see the tweet, but IMPEACHMENTS cannot be pardoned. If Trump gets impeached, neither Pence nor Biden can pardon away the impeachment. Trump can still be pardoned for other crimes and misdemeanors.
.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_pardons_in_the_United_States
"The pardon power of the President is based on Article Two of the United States Constitution (Section 2, Clause 1), which provides:
.
The President ... shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, ***except in Cases of impeachment.***"
.
"One limitation to the president's power to grant pardons is "in cases of impeachment." This means that the president cannot use a pardon to stop an officeholder from being impeached, or to undo the effects of an impeachment and conviction."

Re: Any lawyers on here?
Someone on Twitter yesterday said that when Saddam Donnie is impeached, Pence can no longer pardon him....whether he's convicted or not.  That's why Nixon ended up resigning.

If that's true, then impeach away and convict his ass.

Either the person who tweeted was wrong, or you misunderstood them.

“One limitation to the president's power to grant pardons is ‘in cases of impeachment.’ This means that the president cannot use a pardon to stop an officeholder from being impeached, or to undo the effects of an impeachment and conviction.”

Which means an impeached person could be pardoned, but the pardon won’t undo the impeachment.
