Come early next year sounds like Obama will go after gun control. This is a loser for him, will tie up tons of time and political capital and will stop him from pushing other liberal agenda items.
He is going to turn his second term into a long lame duck session which is good news for conservatives.
What's hilarious is that when the law is inevitably passed (some conservatives are already on board with it) that closes the gun show loophole (they'll still sell without the soon beefed up background checks the FBI previously shelved but won't anymore and many will enjoy the ambiance of federal prison) and stops the selling of high shot magazines, wingnuts claim
that a huge underground supply of guns like the one that killed those teachers and kids will flourish.
If so why are snowpanic and others like it wetting their beds over the new law.
Only a fool who thought Palin and Romney would win thinks that a 2nd term president is losing capital over gun saftety legislation. It's the pubbyputzes who stand to look stupid capaigning for more Sandy Hook massacres who are at peril.
But as I always said delusional Repubyputzes who never win a Presidential election think they have won. LOL upon Lol stupid upon stupid.
Never ceases to amaze me how righties preach against their own interests.

Oh, but wait, I forget, you don't know shit about government....
That explains your position.
Funny how my predictions as to who wins elections and court battles always come true isn't it?
And am I ever enjoying the gnashing of teeth of the righties here who lost another big one and lost it clearly.
What we'll be doing and you righties are always free to move out to a banana republic ore of your liking--pack now.
1) The beefed up more extensive background checks will roll out now.
2) Unlicensed gun sellers will have to do background checks and a nuber of them will be caught and begin to be ordered around like slaves in federal prison. 40% of guns are sold by unlicensed assholes who conduct no background checks.
3) Large capacity magazines will definitely be banned and we'll see how well the underground suppliers are able to get the in circulation and how many of the end up in federal prison. This will mean no grandfathering of previously allowed large capacity magazines.
4) Waiting periods will definitely increase.
Oh stop bragging about how good your "crystal ball" is Jeff. LOL.
Seriously though, other than Hollywood, and the millions they make off of violence, we need to look at (You'll love me for this one, Jeff) antidepressant control!! All the perpetrators of mass shootings in recent years, including the one in Norway, were taking antidepressants or their medical records are sealed. Guns have been available since the start of this nation, however these mass shootings have become much more common only recently. Perhaps we should look at what else has changed and correct that. I pointed out antidepressants as a possible cause, but it could be any number of things, including the media's glorification of these types of crimes. There are sooo many other variables out there that no one wants to look at.
The reaction is understandable, but despite the best of intentions, the gun laws won’t stop these attacks from occurring. We have already tried the magazine ban and it won’t be any more helpful now than it was when the Federal Assault Weapon Ban was in effect from 1994 to 2004.
And I am not a gun totin mama, and I a do not want guns in my home, but I do believe that "we the people" need to look at other areas first, (our government certainly won't, they're stuffing their pockets, with Hollywood violence and of course with FDA being part of our government, why would they look at what antidepressants do to the human condition) as these are the prerequisites to a person's conditioning.

Cheri--
I don't know where you got your info that anyone/everyone involved in the scores of mass shootings in the last few years was on anti-depressants. I doubt that's true. I don't reember a list of meds any of these people was on ever being published, and doing so would violate a few laws.
There are a long list of drugs that can cause rare psychosis as side effects, but psychosis as a side effect is not common for TCA's. The main dangers of TCAs are neurological impairment and a wide range of dysrhythmias including 3rd degree conduction blocks and prolongation of QT intervals on EKG (in the heart). Early on this manifests as tachycardia (rapid heart beat). There are a wide variety of other arrhythmias, and to be sure they can cause hallucinations as one of their wide range of neurological side effects.
TCAs unfortunately have what is known as a narrow therapeutic index, that is their effective dose and toxic dose are in close range. A patient can get in trouble with as low a dose as 6.7 mg/kg or a few TCA's at once. These people need to be kept in the hospital for 24-48 hours on a monitor and they are even though they look alert and perfectly fine. I've seen situations where someone discharged a patient because they look fine, and the patient went into 3rd degree block because they were released too early when I was a resident.
I think inicky46 or you referred to dangers--TCA's or trycyclics when overdosed have the paradoxical impact that they can cause respiratory depression and death as well as other side effects and this has been known and respected forever. I can't think of any psychotropic drugs that have been focuses on more in the psychiatric or psychopharacology or internal medical, family medicine and pediatric literature over the years.
We have newer types of antidepressants (selectiveseritonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRI's) and combo anti-anxiety antidepressant meds and have had for over 20 years.
You can read about antidepressants all over the place but this isn't a bad site:
http://depression-faq.org/reference.html?utm_source=msn&utm_medium=ppc&utm_campaign=dep_reference&utm_term=ssri+drug+list
By the way, the media is ignoring that at a school in Beijing, 22 kids and a teacher were stabbed outside a school on Friday. All survived the knifing but the kids who were shot 3-11 times each with an assault weapon did not.

My read on antidepressants also by a Doctor, unfortunately, once again, I believe it all boils down to money, once enough people have died and the drug companies have made their billions then the law suits but why should they care, they already made their billions.
http://www.infowars.com/mass-murders-and-the-ssris-connection/
All drugs have side effects. The average range is 5-6% and some are a lot more serious than others. Drug companies make huge profits and they also invest considerably in R&D although not near as much as they say they do.
But having used them in patients for a lot of years, with awfully good results I don't see meds as evil profiteering tools, and as the years go on they get better.
An example of this is the new drug that has cured leukemia in 12 people who were dying of it, being brought to market by Novartis in New Jersey.
In Girl’s Last Hope, Altered Immune Cells Beat Leukemia

Could we see more ATF fast & furious style, buy and bust scenarios, if stricter gun laws are implemented?
You know...Never waste a crisis.
Can you imagine trying to take weapons from people in the South? Or going out west to places like Alaska and Montana and trying to take away hunting rifles? Most people buy their weapons 2nd hand, or they are passed down, which requires no background or licenses if the person chooses to not carry and just have one in the home. We have a much deeper issue to address with the children that are killing.
and should be. The idea is to curb homicides. Obama has spoken at FOUR MASSACRE MEMORIALS--an average of one per year. Anyone who thinks AK-47 type guns, the most popular and prevelant sold are needed by civilians is bat shit crazy.
Notice that the NRAsters have gone completely dark. They have told themselves to "SOTFU" for a while anyway.
Anyone who thinks that there won't be laws curbing the Bushmaster .223 assault rifle that was used by Lanza to assault 6-7 year-olds and teachers is batshit crazy.
Anyone who thinks that the laws that are coming won't reduce gun violence is batshit crazy.
The war on drugs was very poorly conceived, and unfairly enforced many times like crack vs. powder sentencing differences that are racially biased and stupid.
The coming laws on gun safety won't be as ill-conceived as the lost war on "drugs."
The 2nd amendment said nothing about multi-clip magazines being part of the right to bear arms and the on point controlling Supreme Court decision, and the less than week old decision written by 7th Circuit Judge Posner and his law clerk allow for "reasonable" gun safety regulation. Heller said nothing about the reasonableness of AK-47s/AR-15s high capacity magazines like 30 rounds assault weapons of the type your brother used in Afghanistan in such wide circulation. And while illegal drugs are dangerous at times when not used for legit medical purposes, they don't kill at the rates that multi-clip magazines do.
You may have not noticed NRA endorsed very pro-gunSenators like Joe Manchin coming out against assault rifles for public consuption but they are and fast over the past 3 days.
What will happen is that more people will populate federal prison when they break the new gun laws. All the self-righteous NRAsters here claim to be responsible gun owners. If you are, you don't have jack shit to be concerned about. You will still be able to buy your penis substitutes that fire bullets. You think the NRAsters use their guns to masturbate Madison?
They may have to go back to fingers, vibrators and dildos.
I pray the medical field will do their part. I am very fortunate and don't have to go to the doctor much, but I do have a doctor that is a recovering addict himself, knows my history, and is on my side. I am so sorry that I cannot debate you, my heart hurts and I feel like the breath has been knocked out me. Madison
No one, nowhere, is suggesting taking away hunting rifles or shotguns. This is the classic scare tactic of the gun lobby. "On, no! We can't ban cop-killer bullets or 100-bullet magazines, or (fill in the blank), because it's a slippery slope leading to Big Brother coming for your hunting rifle." Total crap.
As for anti-depressants, that's a HUGE separate debate. But I believe the big drug companies have pushed them on doctors and patients. One of my dearest friends committed suicide because of the poor administration of these drugs. What makes this such a difficult subject is that some people are in desperate need of said drugs. Like many other issues this is a complex one with no one-size-fits-all solutions.

I do know from experience there is not enough support for Mother's dealing with children with mental issues. I raised 2 children that were not mine biologically. They were both boys, different backgrounds, one I was custodian step parent, the other legal guardian. They were both full of rage. And I can tell you from my experience, I had little support. The school didn't want them, I was constantly called to the principals office and they would be sent to alternative schools and even juvenile detentions. The church didn't want them, I would be called to the pastors office and they would be thrown out of youth. The doctors would mercifully give me drugs to calm the one with ADHD. It finally come to the point that I didn't even want them. The police were called to my house constantly. I would be threatened by the police with being arrested if I threw them out. No consideration that I had to sleep with a deadbolt on my bedroom door. I don't want to consider myself a victim. But the relationships ended with them beating the shit out of me and leaving me in parking lot and an ambulance taking me to the emergency room. They were 17 at that point and tried as adults. Both plea bargained, after long jury testimony, and done 2 years each. They are out now, and no part of my life. I don't know what I could have done different, but I tried and failed miserably with raising them.
Sounds like a nightmare. Clearly, you were abandoned by the segments of society that are supposed to help. I think the system is just overwhelmed sometimes and lots of people fall through the cracks. Which is exactly why stopping things like the Newtown massacre will be so hard. The kid who did it is now infamous and I'm sure there are plenty of sickos who'd love to acheive similar fame.
file delete in my brain. My life is peaceful in the present moment.
The NRA has gone into media blackout mode since the horror in Newtown, CT, going silent on Twitter and removing their Facebook page, while also refusing to comment on the incident. Well, it appears the NRA's pet politicians are following their masters' leads, at least as far as the Senate is going. Meet the Press had extended invitations to 31 pro-gun members of the Senate to come onto the show this morning and share their views? How many accepted? As David Gregory put it, a big fat ZERO.
Democrats are not interested in gun control...
There is no profit to be made, by taking an anti gun stance.

The Cymbalta commercials are back on the Food Network today. They took a hiatus for several days too, I imagine, to take the focus off the drugs. I bet NRA is disappearing for awhile too

.........without them. Going forward it's all about the change in demographics. Hispanics, Asian Americans, Black Americans, Single Black/White Women are tilting heavily towards to Democrats.
If we could get a movement started Mothers against Assault Rifles just like we have Mothers against drunk driving we could get some change.
the VAST majority of gun deaths, CAUSED BY HANDGUNS occur.
You dummycrappers need to STFU and clean up your own act.
I'm talking about total shootings.
That souds like a classit liberal statement...
There has never been a mass shooting in a low income or minority neighbor hood, Why?
More straw man arguments from you two. Where did I say there was no gun violence in the inner cities. I simply pointed out that gun violences reaches everywhere because your post seemed to ignore that.
Out law all guns----Out law all abortions.
I will sit this one out since I don't have a gun, or a womb.
Just know this libtards. An Ambrams can't drive itself .
