It's similar to a story told in my family, that upon research, turned out to be bullshit: that we had an Ordained Saint in our family tree. Research tore that down. She was simply a nun. Well regarded, but not an Ordained Saint.
So, having experienced the bullshit and wrong information that get embedded in family lore, I see Obama's claims as mistakes.
His uncle liberating Auschwitz: his Grand Uncle, and it was Buchenwald.
His parents meeting in a civil rights march in Alabama: again, he just had his facts wrong. It was apparently some different and later march, and they probably didn't meet there either, but they marched together.
You wonder why he lies when he had no reason to? First, he didn't know the statements were untrue, and assumed that they were harmless at the least.
His only reason for saying them: he wanted to show that his family shared an American Heritage. He spoke off the cuff and blew it.
Hillary Clinton's statement was a straight-out lie, and a fatal one. She lied so she could claim active experience in government above and beyond Obama. If you saw it discussed on Democratic forums, that lie was her one action that assured she wasn't going to get the nomination. Democrats certainly, did care if she lied, and that's the absolute fact about it.
John Kerry: that one's going to be argued for 100 years. Frankly, I think many of his men's opinions about him were turned against him by his testimony on the war. I think memories got distorted around that, but I subscribe to the well-supported theory that memories are effected by emotions. As usually happens when emotionally charged memories are compared to records, the military records and what was said about Kerry at the time did not support the Swiftboat claims made over 30 years later.
I feel a bit sorry for Democrats these days. I mean, what an act they had to follow with JFK's in WWII. How the hell do you follow that?

I was thinking about Democrat Presidential candidates (past & present) and I noticed a recurring theme: They all lie about themselves. Mostly stupid, white lies that don't benefit them much but can cripple their candidacy if exposed.
1) Obama(Besides the Rev. Wright, Rezco, and other stuff)- He claimed his uncle was one of the soldiers present that liberated the Jews from Auschiwitz during WWII. The only problem is that uncle didn't exist and if he did he couldn't have because Auschiwitz was never liberated during the war but discovered after. He also claimed that his parents met at some Civil Rights march in Alabama. They met 4 years after that march.
WTF??!! Why would he lie about this stupid crap that doesn't matter?? Would he be Pro-Israel because he had an uncle that stormed the gates of a death camp 63 years ago? If his parents didn't conceive him during a Civil Rights march does that make him anti Civil Rights? Why lie?
2)Hillary Clinton- The voting public had moved on from her cattle futures windfall from "reading the Wall Street Journal" and discovering Vince Foster's Whitewater papers in her shoe closet. But she just can't leave it alone. She just couldn't be another First Lady going on mundane diplomatic trips. She had to have bullets wizzing by her head. Why? Even if that were true does that make her a combat veteran?...Oh yea, and she's part Jewish!!!
3) Kerry- We all know about him being "Swiftboated" (called on his bullshit from people that were there) but what was the point of this massive web of lies he created about himself? He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged. He then became a prominent Vet against the war. That was enough. He didn't have to become a character in an Oliver Stone movie. Oh yea, and he's part Jewish!!!
Democrats lie about themselves because it is all one big fucking lie. They can never speak the truth of what they represent so casually lying about all things great and small becomes their Modus Operandi.
THEY HATE THE MILITARY.
THEY HATE PRIVATE BUSINESS.
THEY WANT RACIAL DIVISION.
AMERICA HAD IT COMING FOR PAST SINS.
THEY HATE ANY RELIGION THAT PUTS GOD IN FRONT OF THEM.
PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND NEED TO BE GUIDED THROUGH LIFE BY BIG GOVERNMENT(them).

unfair attack, but those guys were in the war, too, and most of them knew Kerry from in-country and all of them despised him for his theatrical lies and showboating in front of Congress and for hanging out with Hanoi Jane. Kerry made horrific accusations in order to begin his political career. It worked, but in a dramatic turn, it came back to croak him short of his goal. Ooohh, too bad.................
I love it, you rail and rail and rail about the Democrats, while planning to sit on your hands and watch them take over both the legislative and the executive branch.
The logic here, or rather lack thereof, is stunning.

I won't vote for McCain simply because there is an (R) next to his name. I don't jump over fences at night saying "Baaaa". I don't want a watered down Republican. When he pushed that campaign finance law that prohibited free speech I was done with him. Perhaps Republicans will learn a lesson and nominate a candidate that shares their basic ideals next time.
If it is any consolation to you, I live in a Deep Blue state that would elect Hugo Chavez over any Republican so my vote wouldn't sway things much.
Bingo!
It's too late for this November.
can move to Canada together.
Hey, maybe we can!
But, since I was responding to Sins, we'll have to wait for you to understand what's going on here.
We can hitchike up together, k?
The problem with the libbies is that they have no honor and the lack of honor allows them to believe that the ends justify the means. They believe they have been annointed to run the lives of the peasants who don't appreciate what is being done for them and hoodwinking them is necessary to get them to take their medicine. God Damn'd stinking libbies. The lowest form of life!!!!!!!!!
What if I said BLACK listed? Or BLACK hole... oh... wait a minute... that's not racist at all.
Sorry, nevermind.
your response is premised on the old tradition that connotes black with negative, but there are several instances where black connotes the positive :
1. in the martial arts [sigh] the highest level of achievement is the black belt
2. a pitcher with mastery of the strike zone is said to "paint the black"
3. in a capitalist society, being "in the black" is really a good thing.
4. this is subjective, but is there a better jellybean flavor than the black one?
5. and Johnny Walker Black label [I'm not a scotch drinker myself, though]?
6. and isn't there an Amex Black Card which is resticted to multimillionaires, who by definition are in the black?
See, it's not as black and white as you'd like to imagine [LOL].

As for Hillary there is no debate of course. She actually admitted to lying about it to finally put it to rest. She said something like "I knowingly said something that was not true". I feel she's a compulsive liar like her husband.
I don't think Obama's statements were "off the cuff". He is so well rehearsed. As you said, he is trying to show an "American Heritage" to compensate for his name, background, and associations. I believe he knowingly lied not realizing that every little statement on every campaign stop will be double and triple checked by somebody.
Kerry's father was an ambassador and I believe he had political ambitions from the start. He wanted to create a mythology about himself that rivaled JFK. Al Gore handled it much better. His father groomed him to be President from childhood (no wonder he is so wacked in the head) so he went to Vietnam (non combat) for a short while with personal body guards. He was able to add Veietnam vet status to his resume but he never boasted about it so it never came back to bite him in the ass. Kerry based his entire identity around his four months in Vietnam.
I don't think handlers would have advised him to say his uncle was there at the liberation of Auschwitz. Obama's advisers, more than any before, are aware of the internet.
No, he just threw out something from family lore, just something he thought might help or at least be harmless. His campaign people were probably pulling out their hair as he did.
has a natural reaction to lie and will even lie about the little things that don't matter.
Stand clear when he struts his stuff and lies about something that matters!
