Why on earth would Rumsfeld keep damning information under wraps for 4 months or longer, when he knew it would only hurt the USA?
He actually thought he could keep it a secret. The administration is crowing about how they released the info rather than it having leaked - but they only did that when CBS insisted on airing the photos. They get no points from me for coming forward.
Actually, I think what happened is that Joint Chiefs of Staff Meyer went to CBS, and managed to have the piece suppressed for several weeks. Sixty Minutes finally aired it, but only because Seymour Hersh published his own report on the Iraqi tortures in the New Yorker.
I agree, though, that these people are filled with arrogance and hubris. Very reminiscent of the Watergate days.
With the environment that exists, if one party even comes close to admitting a large error, many members from the opposing party would fry it. The US House is particularly bad when it comes to attack politics. The US Senate is much better but does have it's moments.
I don't see that anymore. This Iraq situation is a shitnest. The whole debacle is turning into one of the biggest foilbles I can think of. The problem is this is a NATIONAL problem with serious, long term, perhaps deadly consequences.
There is a little too much venom from the left and lack of candor from the Admin.
