It seems to me you should avoid dinosaur metaphors, Gopper. (eom)teeth_smile

Now Bush will get sympathy votes, just like after the WTC bombing, and the people will rally to their "leader" who someone tried to slander (so he must be a victim, right?), and he will just "aw, shucks" them to victory.

The feel-good story of the year.

Gee, sorry if I don't feel sorry for CBS, Dan Rathernot & Kerry.

It's not like Dan Rather hasn't been working on this story for five years.

It's not like some of the experts that CBS consulted didn't raise questions on the documents.  And then ignored those warnings.

It's not like Dan Rather has something like 40 years of experience.  I have a hard time buying that he was hoodwinked.

It's not like they DO know better than to accept photocopies versus original documents.

It's not like they should know to accept information from a discretided source with close ties to the Democratic party.

It's not like Dan Rather has ever worried about his journalistic integrety and thought that he could rest on his laurals.  Remember Jason Blair @ The New York Times?

It's not like CBS in their due dillegence didn't bother to contact his son (in the military), or his former wife as to their opinion - after all if the docs were from his personel file, wouldn't they know about them or Killian's opinion on Bush?

I could go on & on on CBS, fact is they screwed up.  They exacerbated the problem by standing firm, and not being objective.  Was CBS duped?  IMHO no, Dan Rather was complacent in the story.

How often have people written things when they had a particular objective in mind that they wanted to prove & seclectivly cited references to support their preconcevied idea & took facts and figures out of context that would only aid to support those preconceived ideas.

If CBS hands the Election to Bush in their zeal to harm him - so be it.

Dan Rather, Peter Jennings and  Tom Brokaw hate George Bush so much that they have sacrificed their own reputations in order to destroy him. But so far, they have failed and most assuridly will fail henceforth after Rather's heinous fraudulent Soviet KGB style attack on Bush.  I would not even ask Dan Rather for the time of day.  He has zero credibility and his hatred for Bush shows through even now as he is trying to save his own skin.

Gone are the days when the New York Times and the 3 networks were the gatekeepers of the news.  The Internet has created freedom. And with it the increased difficulty of pulling off a smear campaign attempted by CBS and Rather.

Brokaw is retiring after the elections and Rather may be gone before or shortly thereafter and I believe Jennings too will slip away ignominiously into obscurity.

I say good riddens and take Katie Couric with you.
