Let me preface this by saying I usually don't buy the hidden political message claim for most popcorn movies. Remember people claiming there was a message in "300"?  I just feel a lot of people see things through a narrow prism.

I saw THE DARK KNIGHT today and it seemed to have an interesting political theme.  The Joker is unleashed on Gotham City because Batman has gotten too successful at catching the bad guys.  The Joker was sent as an act of desperation.  This version of the Joker is a pure terrorist who is looking to achieve anarchy.  He actually makes thing much worse in Gotham than before Batman arrived.  So the city turns on Batman and blames him for its trouble.

Isn't this the Left's basic argument against Bush?  "We've made them angrier".

Another much more transparent subject in the movie was surveillance.  Batman has figured out a way to spy on anyone using a cell phone.  Morgan Freeman's character is angry about it and gives a good ACLU speech.  But he eventually uses it to help find The Joker and save lives. After he succeeds he then destroys the technology.  Conveniently having it both ways.

...the part where the chief on one of the ferries handed the detonator to one of the prisoners thinking that the prisoner would do it. It reminded me of politicians...they always want someone else do their dirty jobs for them.

Another part was when the people wanted Batman to surrender to save their sorry asses. Instead of working together to resolve the problem, they wanted batman to take the fall. It reminds me of the Democratic Congress. Instead of lifting their drilling ban in the OCS or work on new energy legislations, they'd rather work on Bush's impeachment.

I wonder how much of our tax dollars Congressman Dennis Kucinich is using for this impeachment process....

***Sorry if Cartman and I ruined the movie for you guys who haven't seen the Dark Knight yet. =)

how about the one where I emerge from the BatCave to wage war upon the homophobe population of Gotham City? I'll be effectionally known as The NAMBLA Knight. Then, after I relax with young Robin, we'll all really understand why they're not comic books, they're graphic novels.

The more graphic the better. Better check the Utility Belt for BatLube.
