Interesting study on welfare

The article states it was from "donated funds." From whom? I do think there is some merit to this idea but I also think some restrictions should be made to the program, if tax payers are kicking in. The public should not be funding anyone's drug habit.

Also bear in mind we are facing a future in which the number of workers needed to fill the jobs that that will be out there will continue a steep decline. And the amount of wealth being created will continue to grow. So paying people who are basically unemployable is inevitable. Unless you want them to simply starve.
Call it Welfare or whatever you want, but it's the future.

If it's from a wealthy contributor, no one but him/her have the right to dictate how the funds are passed out or what restrictions should be made. But if it's from the US taxpayer, then they should have more say. There is a difference between charity and another entitlement program.
As to whether the program works or not, that is another matter. It was only based on 125 families so that is a very, very small sample size. I am not saying this idea does not deserve merit, but let's be smart about it (as we have had enough stupid government the last 4 years) and not waste taxpayer funds on people with addictions, to name just one potential fault with the program.

In addition, the program was not means tested, and I certainly don't think we should give $ with no strings to wealthy people.

And possibly save their lives, make them better parents etc and give them a shot at a good life. Isn't that what good government is all about Laffy? Pardon me for disagreeing, button addition, I never want to see any new programs going to the wealthy.  That certainly isn't good government. Any wise new entitlement needs SOME restrictions otherwise it will be rife with abuse and unanticipated negative outcomes.

"Prior to the Great Society programs try to find a single ghetto in the United States."
Well, try Harlem, for one. But in fact EVERY large US city had a Black ghetto before 1965. According to Time: "African Americans had begun employing the term “ghetto” to refer to their own residential segregation as early as the 1910s, at a time when several American cities were passing zoning ordinances that prohibited black people from living on blocks where the majority of residents were white."
Please try and do better.

But the source of the funds isn't really one of them.
