Here's a question I've asked before, yet the rightwingers refuse to answer directly.

For the longest time, Bush insisted that an invasion of Iraq was absolutely necessary because of the imminent threat of WMDs. But none were ever found. At some point, the message changed entirely.

The war became a moral imperative because we were liberating the Iraqi people from the dictatorial rule of a madman and establishing a new democractic government.  But as Iraq descended into a violent and bloody civil war with little or no hope for a secular democracy, the message changed again.
Now, the war is essential to protect the US from terrorism.

Before the Bush administration leaves offrice, I am absolutely certain that some sort of attack will occur somewhere in the United States.. Bush and Cheney will ensure that it happens because they want to leave office saying, "We told you so."

No shit George. Decimating an entire nation and it's citizens tends piss people off.

Just asking again whats the question?

here are a few!

1) Was this war really necessary?  No WMDs? No link between 9/11 and Iraq? WTF?

2)Who has benefited from this war?  I'd love to know how much Cheney's blind trust has increased in value, given the number of no-bid contracts Halliburton received.

3) Has Rove finally realized he's been backing an idiot for years?  Smart political strategy, create a war! No one wants to criticize a wartime president.  Too bad about the young Americans killed and injured in the process.

4) Here is a question the rightwingers will recognize - Are you better off than you were four years ago?  Ask that of an Iraqi, and expect that the answer would be, at best!!! "just marginally!!!  Have the chances of my being shot decreased?  No!!!  Has the certainty of whom I will be shot by decreased?!? Also NO!!!."

1..Hindsight is great and usually 20/20 for half of us. The debates on the war and piblic record and also the voting record ..WW11 would not have been necessary if the Pres had acted sooner..We didn't get into WW11 until almost too late..Millions more lives were lost because we waited..I think looking back in istory they will see Iraq war was necessary.
2.I am not sure who has benefited from this war besides freedom loving people.I am sure Haliburton has made a bundle but until someone has another dependable supplier for our troops Haliburton is the main supplier.
3.There must be a lot of no ones out there if you say no one wants to critize a war time President. I cringe every time I hear about another soldier getting killed or injured.I wish we had Robot soldiers.
4. I am better off than I ws four or eight or twelve years ago but I can't answer for all of Iraq. I think as long as Bush or someone like him is President we have a much less chance of a terrorist attack on our soil.

1) Yes hindsight is great, like seeing how a war we tried to avoid was brought to us, like Pearl Harbor.  The Bush administration has tried to establish a WMD and or link to 9/11 that was never there.

2) I'm sure there were other dependable suppliers, some may have even been cheaper, but we will never know.  Somehow the firm in which the VP has an interest wins a no-bid contract?  If you believe in free enterprise, why not in this case?

3) I appreciate that you cringe when soldiers die, and wish we had robots, but we are dealing with REAL PEOPLE!!!  I watched my father go to war twice in Vietnam.  Fortunately, he came back both times.  I have friends who are not so fortunate.  I'm sure your cringing, and hopes for robot soldiers will be a great comfort to those who have lost loved ones.

4) I'm glad you are enjoying your tax breaks, but I was asking if Iraqis are better off than they were 4 years ago.  Our troops have been in Iraq for 4 years, with no end in sight (unless you wan to be labeled unpatriotic).  I hope you are right, that there won't be a terrorist attack on US soil,  of course much of the Islamic world believes the US is at war with their faith.  I'm sure you will take great confidence in that!

The radical factions of the Islamic World declared war on our way of life long before the Iraq war and I didn't realize that yesterday.. Just because you are sure of something doesn't make it fact.

Finally something we agree on.  So here is my overall question - WTF has this war to do with this threat, and how can anybody with a straight face suggest that the threat is lessoned because it.

1) In hindsight: it's pretty apparent that the Bush administration wanted to take out Iraq before 9/11.  To that end, they knew connection to Al-Qaida was non-existent to begin with, but unethically used 9/11 to push it.  They were willing to puff the danger of WMD's to do it.  Poison Gas BTW, was never previously referred to as a WMD.  It's a tactical weapon.  I'll defer debate on WW2.

2) Freedom loving people certainly haven't benefited-- yet. Whether they ever do is all conjecture. It's rather possible that that there will be a discrediting of American-style democracy due to Iraq.

3) Bush was certainly above criticism in the months after 9/11.  Debate was practically shut down as everybody "got behind" the president.  Even internationally, Bush was handed power no president ever had after 9/11.

4) I'm definitely worse off.  I can't blame the war or Republicans for a lot of that, though.  The 90s were extremely good to me.  I wish I had hobbied then.  I do bite my nails a lot about this economy, though.  What economists call "the fundamentals" are extremely poor.

As for Iraq, it seems Iraqis who have left are the ones who have the best life now.

You've been watching too many Michael Moore films.
