About 90% of the world wants Dems in power in the U.S. Why? Because they think Bush is nuts and stupid. It shows how incompetent Bush is at dealing with the world. Why is this so hard to understand?
It matters not one bit what any percentage of the world wants when it comes to US politics.
It matters what the electorate wants, as outlined in the Constitution.
While the US may be a part of the "world" there are times when the decision must be made about what's best for the US, not the rest of the world.
Those who cannot accept the current admin can do any of three things: work for political change, do nothing, or turn tail and run away somewhere else. Personally, I can understand the first two choices, however, the last option is just childish pouting. If you think the grass is greener, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out-and stay out.
Did you actually watch the entire intervierw? The only negative I heard was that Democrats never want to give credit to Republicans -- which is true on any issue in politics, jsut as the reverse is true, Republicans never want to give credit to Democrats -- which she then qualified by saying that as an American she is hopeful that things will work out in the Middle East.
I thought she offered some good insights into the situations in Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Syria. Just because she didn't completely and blindly kiss Bush's ass she's now anit-American? Amazing.
Your first point: there's still Iran and North Korea. Why do you think she called out those two countries specifically? Very simple, they're the remaining member of Bush's axis of evil. However, she kind of said it as a throwaway line. Now what did say just prior to mentioning Iran and North Korea? That there's a chance for a historic peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians and that it may well work out. Not exactly Bush bashing.
Your second point. I assume you're talking about her statement that "there's always hope this won't work out. Again, I that as a punchline. She was responding to Stewart's point about this huge change sweeping the Middle East and she correctly pointed out that there has been change in the area but no real progress. She then said "It's moving in the right direction. I have to give them credit for that."
Finally, as to your original post that that the Democrats have a dirty little secret that they want Bush to fail? Not really a secret: the Dems hate Bush, he hates them. But Soderberg is not an official of the Democratic party. She was on Stewart's show for one reason: to promote her book. Now some Republican blogsters have taken a couple of her quotes out of context and have blasted her name all over the place. Just what she needs when selling a book. Congratulations.
She was either joking or what she says doesn't matter.
Yes, there was some levity in what they both said about U.S. foreign policy failing. That doesn't mean that she does not believe in what she said.
My point has NOTHING to do with Bush bashing or giving Bush credit. It is about how some democrats hope that U.S. foreign policy fails, at the expense of life and limb of many people (U.S. military included). Just because she gives Bush SOME kudos does NOT let her off the hook for her unbelievable comments.
She IS an "official" of the democrat party. She used to be an Ambassador under Clintion for cripes sake. She just wrote a book negative to Bush. The one thing that she is NOT, and that is a comedian.
Soderberg wasn't going for a laugh when she said "There's still Iran and North Korea, There's hope for the rest of us."
But even more telling was when she said, "There's always hope that this might not work".
Ok, let's presume for the moment that that last comment was in jest or sarcasm. She's then implying that more conflict, more wounded, more dead, somehow has some connection to levity.
I just don't get it. Please explain the humor to me so we may move on.
To their credit, they both actually did give some props to our present foreign policy, but her true feelings and desires poked through for a brief but very illustritive moment.
