I've read a lot of despicable shit on this board but his comment is so low it's impossible to describe.  To not care about 18 dead kids (many of them kindergarteners) is grotesque.  To crow about it even worse. The shooter, BTW, was not a parent.  Looks like he was 18-20.

Please don't read this as an attack. After reading your post my mind wandered to all sorts of possible explanations, and then it dawned on me. It doesn't really matter if we as a society really are not that interested in doing anything about it. On a continuum of personal and societal existence, we have total freedom on one end, and total safety on the other (of course there is probably no absolutes regarding either). We, as a society are trying to find a balance between the two. The freedoms we have, regarding owning weapons, keeping our personal lives private and not having our personal freedom impinged upon without ample evident of intent to cause bodily harm to ourselves and others, leaves us vulnerable to the acts of others who feel entitled to harm us, no matter what their reasoning or mental state. On the other hand, how much of those freedoms are we willing to give up, or to what extent are we willing to have them bridled?

Taken together, they are some of the saddest, ugliest thoughts I've read on this board.  And that's saying something.  Why shit all over anybody's need to grieve at the world's latest horror?  Why wallow in the fact that you're unable to feel anything because they're not people you know?  Ugly is ugly, and you don't seem to get it.  Why would you?

If you must know, I did feel the need to grieve over the Norway shootings.  I was thinking about that today because there are eerie similarities.  It also makes me sad to see the suffering in Syria, or anywhere where inexplicable evil is visited on the innocent.  If you're not capable of such empathy, that's sad.  It is also one of the components of a sociopath, and I hope that's the only one you share with them.
And while it's true there are "better outlets" than the P&R Board, this board is a totally appropriate place to post on this subject, since it connects to so many of society's issues.  It would have been amazing had no one raised it on this board.  In fact, had no one raised it, that would have made me think less of this board and I didn't think that was possible.
You're entitled to your views, and those of us who find them inhuman are entitled to ours.

Laffy,  that's not fair,  class has nothing to do with "left or "right,"  Class is treating everyone with equal dignity and respect.   Someone of class shows empathy (not just sympathy) since empathy is a quality above and beyond being well-mannered.  A person of class works all their life on becoming wise--not becoming a wise guy.
