He wanted to make sure he created the ban legally. What is wrong with that? Elections have consequences FG. Stop crying. You lost.

Pretty easy to make it legal...

8 U.S. Code § 1182
(f) Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate

You seem to have forgotten that First Amendment thing. That “class of aliens” cannot be a religious class – the First Amendment prohibits the government from targeting a religion.

This soon to be declared unconstitutional executive order targets Muslims. How do we know that? Um…. the guy who signed the order has repeatedly  said that was his plan. The EO also has that effect. Just bc it does not target all Muslims does not save it from FA invalidation any more than a law prohibiting Catholics in NY from holding federal office would be valid even though Catholics from Florida can still do so.

The EO also favors Christians over Muslims- that preferential religious treatment also is invalid.

There are 46 majority Muslim countries in the world and Trump only picked out 7. That is like, what 15%, or a tad higher? The 7, per the Trump team on the Sunday shows, were 7 the Obama picked out as being the largest exporters of terrorism in the world.

I don't know if that is the truth, but that was the talking point today. I think those would be good defenses, along with the fact that judges tend to give POTUS wide leeway with handling of national security/immigration measures.

I think the XO favoring Christians over Muslims is the problematic part and I think that will have to change.

...I don't see how you missed the point of his post his post Jack, the truth is with Trump we all (even the right wing morons) lost, it's that some of us are a bit quicker to realize that than others.

from soliciting in my neighborhood. Of course, we won't mention "Mormons" -just persons born in Utah. And I don’t like the Jehovah’s Witnesses either. And let’s keep out the Jews on general principles.

But they can keep soliciting in your neighborhood, Jack. In fact, this law would not burden “most, let alone all” of the members of these religions –just the ones who want to convert me.

Maybe you should look at the First Amendment again. Last time I  looked, it created a personal right – not a class one.

Mormons you mention don't live outside the U.S.

This is more than just an argument about freedom of religion, as it involves national security and immigration policy and the POTUS, again, gets wide latitude to handle those matters by the courts and that is with good reason; the courts don't have access to current and secret intel the POTUS relies on to makes those decisions so the SCOTUS almost always punts authority back to POTUS.

Personally, I believe Mormons are Morons.  And Christians are Cretins.
