A Few Words About The OTHER BDS - It Dares NOT Speak Its Name

I suspect most regulars here are familiar with TDS - Trump Derangement System.  The tendency - mostly correct - to see all thoughts, words and deeds of POTUS DT as uniquely malignant, as well as often maladroit.

However, there is a lesser-known politico / emotional specter haunting the political word of 2025: BDS.

Not Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions. The admirable if futile effort to rally folks and institutions to sever various economic ties with the gov't of Israel and other institutions, and some individuals, based in The Jewish State of Israel.

No, this here is BIBI DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, a concept I am proud to introduce to a political world heretofore innocent of it.

So, what is BDS? The tendency, automatic to the point of being reflexive, of DEFENDING all thoughts, words and deeds of Israeli PM Bibi, and by implication the Jewish State of Israel.

 
Who suffers from BDS?  Well, obviously many, but not all, of adherents to the Jewish faith. But it mostly is found in the European-descended populations of the English-speaking world: the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. There are Some victims of this malady in other states of Europe. Hungary comes to mind, and a few are scattered around Italy, Poland France and other European countries but these victims of this malady seem to be less severely affected, and it's an open question whether they are fatally affected by this malady or merely present with a low-grade infection related to their more severe rightist political leanings.

 
What are the symptoms of BDS?

1. An automatic and unshakeable defense of the thoughts, words and deeds of Bibi, and by implication Israel;
2. The automatic use of [exhausted and usually false] charges of antisemitism to  slander and libel and defame critics of Israel, no matter how mild the criticism, how constructive the criticism and how friendly and supportive the critic has been to  Israel in the past;
3. A total inability to concede good faith to Any critic of Israel.  Instead, those folks are denounced as [in no particular order of importance] as antisemites, terrorist-sympathizers, terrorists, jihadists, Islamofascists, Neo-Nazis and paleo-Nazis and Holocaust deniers;
4. An absolute glee in advocating the use of every possible instrument of USA power to be wielded in pursuit and advancement of Israel's power political goals at  every possible opportunity for every conceivable reason;
5. Total indifference to the fact that every enemy of Israel becomes an enemy of the USA by virtue of the USA's support of Bibi Land;
6. The belief that 58 standing ovations by the US Congress is insufficient praise  for this world-historical personality.

Is there ANY cure for BDS? Alas, apparently not.  While it does not tend to be fatal to individuals, it is a lifelong condition with No Known cure, but likely fatal in the long run to the survival of the USA.

But not me. I'm Jewish but hate Bibi and his right-wing religious-nut cronies. I don't reflexively support everything the US does, not do I do so re Israel.
There are shades of gray in this world.

Conman would like us to believe this is all black and white, oppressor and oppressed, but you being a historian know that that is pure folly. The ME is a very complicated situation and goes back centuries. But to the Conman, it is all Israel's fault. He is all yours now. Since he is obviously incapable of defending anything he posts, he has become as boring as Willy, maybe even more so.

Let me know when you can say ANYTHING bad about Gazans, or their neighboring Muslim countries, who don't lift a finger to help the truly innocent Palestinian people, and in fact, make their plight even worse.

Your proposed BDS is what you claim is an irrational *love* for  
Benjamin Netanyahu. This is just dumb.

 
I could love bananas. Or tacos. I could love Chattanooga. Or Denver. I could love blondes with enormous knockers or Asian girls with tiny tits. I could love Monopoly or Shoots & Ladders. Liking something is hardly an indication of being deranged. Perhaps if the thing you liked was getting hit on the head with a steel dildo by a clown who screamed the lyrics to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”, then maybe you might count as deranged, but aside from that, loving a thing and derangement is not really something that really goes together.

"Liking something is hardly an indication of being deranged." Seriously?

Love for someone or something can be as emotional and irrational as hatred for someone or something.

You could "love" chewing rusty razor blades or exfoliating with barbed wire, to take two extreme and fanciful examples, but there is no way anyone except yourself could deny those loves are irrational [as well as dangerous].

…then don’t be a lazy thinker. There’s plenty of people who wrestle with demons, addictions, etc. But even for those who do, they at least recognize in same way that this is self destructive. A person might say, “I’m addicted to opiates.” Or even, “I’m a damn junkie.” They very rarely ever say, “Golly, I just LOVE heroin!”  

 
You’re trying to force a concept that you just haven’t thought through very clearly, because you hate Jews and you’re a lazy thinker. And hey, if you hate Jews, I don’t care, hate whomever you want. I don’t give a shit. But don’t try to rip off another concept because you’re too lazy to think of an apt metaphor.
