This guy's toupe is almost as phony as he :

I guess the new era of civility is just post a picture of someone you don't like with a comment calling him an idiot.

Negates the need for pesky little things like explaining why his positions are wrong.

so I'm aiming at both sides. Now, I KNOW why they're idiots; up to others to Google why, if they choose to. I consider these 2 to be the worst members of the Senate ; not worthy of my "civility".

Others can feel free to put pics of current political figures of their choice-----:)

What to they call a Democrat In Name Only? DINO!

It's definitely tempting to call Ben Nelson one. But, I believe in fairness, his votes tend to reflect the majority opinions of his constituency. Given that, I think he's doing his job the way it should be done.

First, just empty name calling is just empty  name calling.  No substance. Just "idionts."  It ain't exactly the New Golden Age of Civility.

Second, as the person before me noted, you chose a Yellow Dog Dem and a GOP.  Wow.  Ain't no idiots on the Progressive side.  That is as unbiased as PBS.

Also, the fact that some people are not worth your "civility" just puts the nail in the coffin of The New Age.  My Victorian grandmother told me I should be nice to people I didn't like.  But that was the old days.  What did they know about "civility" then.

I hereby promise to be civil to all those I deem to be worthy of it.

Anyone I don't think is worthy is a stupid, New-Nazi, brian dead, piece of doggie doo, and I hope they get run over by a truck, and their children's teeth fall out.   But they aren't worthy of my civility.

It was obviously intended as shock humor.  Which I think is different from just straight insult.

Also, although I backed up the admittedly offensive line rather well, no one said why I was off base after that - just tasteless.  (How did Patrick become Senator?.  How did Caroline become head of the Kennedy Center and get in line to be Senator?  What I said was shocking, but not untrue.)

Finally, and most importantly, I never called for civility originally.  I did not object to heated debated.  I know that the history of US politcs has always been rough and tumble, from the time when the NY papers call Abe Lincoln a Monkey.  (It may have been ape. Exact memory is weak.)

My point has been the other side is calling for kissey-kissey.  Then they keep forgetting to play so nice.

First, the context of your original post was not humorous.  It's a typical cop-out when someone is called on an offensive statement and they then say, "Just kidding."
Second, I'm the one to whom you addressed your "back up" of the offensive statement.  I beg to differ that you "did it well."  It was a weak cop-out then and it still is.
Third, the fact that some Kennedys have done well because of JFK's rep does not make offensive comments OK.  What about Dubya?  Do you think he'd have gotten anywhere without Daddy's rep?  Of course not.  What about the current Gov. Cuomo?  Same deal.  It cuts the same way no matter what the party.  It's quite easy to make the point without sliming a murdered President.
Fourth, just because you didn't call for civility originally doesn't mean a thing.  You just called for it in this thread and you then got called for hypocrisy.  It is justified, so man up.  And yes, Abe Lincoln was called an  "ape."  So what?  That was by a newspaper and not a person on a whore-mongers' board who'd just called for "civility."  I'm not calling for kissy-kissy here, either, just pointing out hypocrisy when I see  it.
Hence, you are full of crap.  The biggest problem is, you don't even know it and will now begin an ardent defense in which you attack my every point.  Prediction:  it will be as intellectually bankrupt as your last post.

The fact that Cuomo and Bush rode the coat tails doesn't make if false for Pat and Caroline.

I didn't call for it in this thread. I was playing on those who did.

My point has always been the call for civility is bullshit.

I never objected when Bush was called Hitler, except to point out that it was a silly comparison. I NEVER OBJECTED ON STYLE.

...a non-responsive, evasive and intellectually bankrupt non-response.  You are quite an expert at making it impossible to have a meaningful debate.  Live and learn;  I won't  try it again.

My OP just commented on the end of civility.  I had not called for the era, but I can comment on its death.

In fact, I did respond pretty directly to part, but not all of your comment.  (I didn’t respond to all because there were a lot of separate threads.)  My original comment that caused offense was the Kennedys doing very well because of what happened. You said so did Cuomo and Bush.  I responded that does not negate my point.
I was not debating Cuomo and Bush so I responded pretty damn well.
Finally, either you misconstrued, or I was ambiguous.  My point here was not to call for civility.  My point was to point out that it was a one-sided call.  I was not saying that everybody should be so nice. Just that since other made the call, I was asking what happened.

Finally, you missed my point about Lincoln.  It was an illustration of the fact that politics has always been rough and ready.  The context doesn't matter.

In short, I did respond to your points.  I never called for civility. I asked what happened to it.
