I think that contributing money directly to a campaign now for the sake of the candidate

He is going to have to spend time and money in places he should not have to. The latest "rumor" I heard now is that the big money donors are starting to wane because they do not want to throw good money after bad.

using the money to buy ads and other such avocating media is illegal.  The date for doing that has passed.  Contributions now go to something called a "Legal Fund", whatever that is.  It seems that contributions to such a fund are not as well tracked as those that are contributed to a campaign fund.  So big contributors could have simply shifted where they are sending the money.  Also, the avocacy groups (not affiliated with the campaign but supporting the candidate 100%) on both the Republican and Democratic side appear to be flush with cash and are getting more.  There seem to be little constraint on such groups.
