The Republicans have utilized this sort of campaigning for a while now.  The problem for the Dems is they rarely have the backbone (or perhaps it's integrity - I think it's stupidity) to get as dirty.  For whatever reason they won't get as vicious as the Republicans, and MoveOn decided to take up the fight.  

It sucks, it's bad for politics, but where do you think MoveOn came from?  What do you think it's a response to?  The same type of campaigning the Republicans have been using for the last 8 years.

I mean, the Democrats won't debate on Fox News and all you hear for weeks on talk radio is how the Democrats are afraid of Fox.  How they can't win the war on terror if they're too afraid of Fox News, etc.  Yet, the Republicans won't even attend a debate dealing with minority issues and you don't see nearly the same negative coverage.  After all, how can the Republicans win the war on terror if they're afraid of minorities?

Did the Republicans have this outcry after the swift boat ads?  No.  They thought they were hilarious.  Hypocrites.

You are probably just misinformed, but it's hard to imagine you don't really know.

It came from, as it's name suggests, a quest for everyone to forget about and "move on" from Clinton fatigue, before anything that happened in the past eight years.

You clearly either didn't exist or weren't paying attention during the Reagan Presidency.

I did exist during some of the Reagan Presidency, but wasn't really old enough to follow it.

Anyway, if I'm mistaken about their existence and influence then I apologize.  I really only became familiar with them as an attack dog for the Dems during the 2004 election.  The Dems in my mind need them because they seem unable to attack the Republicans with the same gusto.  

I'll do some reading and get back to you.

MO did not exist during the 80s but their style of venom did.

Recently, a Dem senator was overheard as saying to the effect, We don't need to attack Petraus, when we have MO to do it for us.

In other words, why get your own hands dirty when all you need to do is unleash the junkyard dog?

There's also a difference in attacking Kerry vs. Petraus. Kerry was running for office and could defend himslef. He's "fair game". Petraus could not defend himself plus it justs stinks to call an officer a liar and traitor. If true they should have filed for a general court martial.

One half of the Senate Dems voted to repudiate MO's attack ad (vote was like 75-25). Even Nancy Pelosi repudiated the ad. Where were all the Senate Dems running for President (Clinton and Obama, etal.) in the vote? All cowering in the corner, afraid to piss off MO. THAT WAS MY ONLY POINT.

I think the problem is that a lot of liberals feel as though the Dems are soft.  The Republicans attack, attack, attack and the Dems don't respond.  

A lot of people feel that MO does what the Dems won't.  In the end, I would think Obama and Clinton fell it's necessary to align with them.  Wouldn't you after how conservatives feasted on Kerry?

I think they're all terrible, and a negative overall, but I understand the Dems needing MoveOn.org's support.

I really don't see what's wrong with the ad.  There are questions about his report and whether he's just the new 'Colin Powell' being force fed his answers.  We all saw how well it worked for this country when everyone just fell in line with Powell without questioning.

Belief or disbelief in Colin Powell aside, CP was Secretary of State at the time. NOT A GENERAL OFFICER IN THE ARMY. He was no longer bound by the  Uniform Code of Military Justice.

IT'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Again, my point is that the Presidential candiates are not aligning with MO.org because that want to. They are AFRAID to NOT do so.

and now, luckily, we have Wolfowitz and the rest of the the world-saving Bush administration.  Mentored by Leo Strauss who in turn was mentored by super-Nazi lawyer Karl Schmitt.  Schmitt was a great lawyer that justified every atrocity the Nazi's committed.  The preemptive war doctrine of Bush's team, yes, taken right from the Nazi's and was partly what we convicted them for at Nuremberg.
