Why not ? They seem to be a model of business efficency. The game is built that way. Only 16-17
games per season, a fast & violent game & the best sport for betting. Speaking extemperaneously, so, sports fans correct me, if I'm wrong; all the teams revenue share don't they ? Isn't only one team a $ loser ? Compared to other sports, FAR less player strikes & discontent. HUGE $ maker;correct me if wrong on above.

No polarization for football, unlike politics ; seems like 99% of the population loves it as evidenced by huge crowds & tv ratings ( only exceptions to this are the same guys who love movie musicals----;)

With things so fucked up, I would think an improvement if NFL ran the Government & Wall St.
Shit------also make it a national religion----GOTTA be an improvement over the "big" 3----;)

The NFL has labor disputes just like every other sport, we just barely avoided losing the entire season just this very year.

NBA, MLB, not to mention NASCAR are also wildly popular and highly profitable, and football hardly has a monopoly on sports betting. Truth be told I have already made a lot more money on hockey of all sports this year than I did on both NCAA and NFL football combined.

Nice try though, and I would vote for it as a national religion, I pray all the time at games. lol

But , in terms of popularity & profitability, isnt NFL far & away # 1 ?

GaG, board, any info on this ?

You almost have to separate professional sports from the rest of the business world. When you look at the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL, what you have are cartels. A country club of cartels. I'll be more specific. A country club of socialist cartels. Even if you have the money, try buying a team. Then you have revenue sharing. Then you have stupid cartel members, i.e. James Dolan who owns the Knicks. The value of the franchise is the most important number, but it can only be exploited if you sell the team. Owners own teams because it's cool. Think of Mark Cuban.

Think of Apple, Microsoft, Oracle all working together. You would have the DOJ on them like stink on shit. You would want Apple, Microsoft and Oracle running the country, not Mark Cuban or James Dolan.

Gotta draw a picture for you guys ?------LOL !

The point I was trying to make is that the 2 party system is doing SUCH a shitty job of running the Government, that the wildly popular NFL would do a better job.

Croix, if you wanna posit that Apple, et al would do better job of running the country, feel free to hijack thread & run with it.

I will admit sports business not my field of expertise, so I ask q again : isn't football far & away most popular sport in terms of popularity & profitability, or is that too difficult to gauge ?

but if government was half as fun to watch as the NFL, it might be a different story.

I don't really think the NFL is particularly well run, with as much waste, fraud and graft as government, done to scale of course.

It is possible that NASCAR is approaching the same level of profitability as the NFL, but the numbers are tough to crunch when closely held.

and yes I knew you were being tongue in cheek, but in that light, I would rather have the leaders in the porn industry running the country, at least we would get fucking in the good way, and the porn business puts sports to shame in the way of being profitable. lol

Joe (the Joe in Traders Joe) Coulombe retired long ago. They are owned by a German firm. Nevertheless, a well run company, and they are in the East Coast, and just recently opened a few stores in Texas. Understand you will only find Trader Joes in affluent areas, so 50% of the population may vote for them, but the other 50% probably have never heard of them.

Pria......come man. You're from LA. Don't you know your history of the Rams. Who do you think killed Carroll Rosenblum, the owner of the Rams. He drowned in a couple of inches of water, by his lovely wife, Georgia. Did I say he was a good swimmer?

Let's see, Raider fans running this country. I'd give it 2 weeks before every pansy ass little liberal in this country would be dead. OK, I'm in (lol)

scuttlebutt was that Georgia put a "hit" out on him while he was scuba diving, or something, I think---what an ugly hideous bitch------LOL !

Btw, outta the loop on this----L.A. any closer to getting a football team ? Fact that country's 2nd biggest city without football team since '95
is a major joke. It's ironic, because 45th anniversary of 1st Superbowl in 3 days; ironically, held in the Coliseum----Packers over Chiefs. Ahhhh, when I used to follow sports----

Lastly, you should go with premise about Apple, et al, running the counrty-----with Congressional approval at 11%, they can't do any worse.

but if he could turn it into a campaign slogan to "Fire Obama" and to "Fire Congress" he might just end up making lemonaid out of his current problem. lol

I do think the City of Los Angeles and the residents all the way down to Orange County should be embarrassed for not having an NFL franchise. Even the Rams were better than nothing, and to lose the Raiders back to Oakland of all places, the shame, the shame. lol

Truth be told, LA never really ever supported either team, I went to a couple of Raiders games in the "Mausoleum" and I bet there were never more than 50,000 in attendence while the USC Trojans seemed to have no problems filling up the place.

has no football team since 1995. Reasons are mostly political, and you can point your fingers at the Coliseum Commission, City Council, blah, blah, blah. Now there is serious talk about building a stadium right next to Staples Center as part of LA Live, which would really invigorate the downtown community. They have corporate sponsors, but somehow it will get screwed up by various waring factions. It always does.

You can scratch that Apple idea. I mean everybody would love an iPod, iPhone and iMAC, but once certain politicians and advocacy groups, and assholes, wrap their head around Tim Cook (Steve Jobs replacement) recently approved comp package of 1 million RSU's, well the shit will hit the fan. Those restricted stocks units are worth more than $400M+ when fully vested based on the stock price at that time, which will probably by a $1000 a share. Talk about the top 1%, class warfare.

but I do agree that the "Worms", Georgia Frontiere not withstanding, still were better supported than were the LA Raiders.

There really is no excuse, no matter how big your stadium is, for not selling out in a city the size of LA. WTF, NASCAR sells out venues over twice the size on a regular basis in such out of the way places where the hosting state is barely a quarter of the size of Los Angeles.

Oh well, if it's any consolation, look at how well the Rams and Raiders franchises are doing now. lol

Something you didn't do before posting. Unless of course it was tongue in cheek.

However; if this was serious the NFL is just another hog feeding at the public tax bucket.

Most of the stadiums where they play were built using public bonds which take tax dollars to pay off. A system pay'd for by the many to benefit the few.

Let them run football and leave it at that.

I am not sure how many states Trader Joe's has spread to, but for those on the west coast, we can all agree that Trader Joe should be the next president and run the country, and I don't know his politics.

No. I take that back. Abolish the UN and make Trader Joe the head of the World Wide Government.

I lived in LA at the time of the Rams and went to many games. I remember the fight with the NFL about local broadcast of the home games. The Rams would draw about 50 to 60K but the "Mausoleume" held 95 thousand. On occasion they would sell out and the game was broadcast localy.

BTW 50 to 60K would have been a sellout in most NFL parks at the time. I always felt the Rams were a better loved team in LA.
