I know how the lefties are going to feel about this, especially the Colin Kaepernick supporters, but how do the rest of you feel about this? Should a high school kid be forced to "respect the flag" and stand during the Pledge of Alliegiance, or does he/she have the first amendment right sit during the pledge?
I am going to do like Imp and answer my own question on a separate post. So who thinks she should be allowed to "disrespect" the Pledge, and who thinks she should be forced to stand?Personally, I don't like the Pledge of Allegiance, especially the "under God" part that was added by Ike. No one should be forced to make a pledge in which they don't believe. It's a blatant violation of free speech. It is also NOT a precursor to continue living here, which is what ignorant goons like swallowpee believe. Personally, I love America. I just don't have to prove it by standing with my hand on my heart and reciting some pledge like a parrot.
And, just to be totally inconsistent, I happen to like the National Anthem. Yes, it was written by a guy who owned slaves but the words are elegant and moving. My preference is to stand and take my hat off, not because I worship the flag but just out of respect for those who do. I'm not much into singing along
I prefer "America the Beautiful."
I hope all this has confused the crap out of you, Wu.
PS: Did you know that many of the great fortunes made in 19th century America were made by selling opium to the Chinks? Our famous clipper ships were designed to carry opium as well as tea. The famous Low Library at Columbia was built with opium money. Other American beneficiaries of ruined Chinese lives was the Forbes family as well as the Delanos (as in FDR). Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
but yes, I agree with you. I think she ABSOLUTELY has the right to sit her ass down during the government indoctrination pledge our government schools make the kids recite each morning. Jingoism is completely different from patriotism.
As for the national anthem, i don't really give two fucks about the anthem, what I do care about is the right of employers to protect their brand, I also can't stand having people preaching to me when they are being paid to serve or entertain me. Can you imagine going to a coffeeshop and having the waitress greeting everyone with a MAGA speech?
As for opium, Opium came FROM the orient, it wasn't exported to China. There were hardly enough Chinks in this country to have made any real fortunes in the 19th century, not compared to the fortunes made in oil, gold, railroads, or even booze. I think maybe you should put your own pipe down.
Lastly, I don't know why they had to make such a big deal that the girl who wouldn't stand was black. Protesting forced and faux patriotism is hardly a black/white issue, nor did is it anything new, my generation was doing this way back fifty years ago, you should remember it well considering you were probably about 40 at the time.
Or maybe you're just drunk. Opium did NOT come from China. It was shipped TO China from India. Please see link below.
Now, Wu, if you want to play the Pedantic Putz, at least try to be right.
During the Reagan years, our CIA turned a blind eye to a drug lord that was supporting the Contra rebels. Allowed the spread of cocaine from LA to across your country, during the 80's drug war and crack cocaine; and unjust life sentence. Corporations were throwing money at the government to keep other countries from becoming socialists/communist. But they needed the drug money to support the Contras. So with this story in my mind.... I wonder about the opioid epidemic seeming to follow our occupation in Afghanistan. How our CIA allowed Afghanistan to continue to trade heroin, just all seems fishy to me with all the fentanyl overdoses and deaths. Oxycontin drug company becomes billionaires. Our government has a war on drugs that is padding everyone's pockets except the victims of addiction and the chronic pain patients dependent on medicine. If you have ever followed me on TER PO board; you can imagine how happy that I am to see legalized marijuana. My neurologist now offers a medical marijuana card to all his patients with PTSD, chronic pain, neurological & mood disorders. And this is how the opiate crisis will be combated and won for many!
The Supreme Court in 1943 made a decision on this matter.
We don't live in Russia and this is America.
Trump and his supporters just don't get it.
Reciting the pledge at school is complete waste of 120 seconds during the school day. Those 120 seconds could be used for something much more educational. Most students were born in the U.S.A they know they are Americans attending school in America.
If this kid was on someone's payroll. Like the NFL's for example, and didn't want to stand for the national anthem. They could simply find a job where they are comfortable with the working conditions.
.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Why would anyone take a job as a teacher? It has to be the lowest paying union job around. Not to mention those asshole kids you have to teach. You'd have to be a masochist to do that job.
What does what you say, have to do with NFL players, playing every aspect of the gig they signed up for?
Believe me, and I think I've said it before. Sports fans don't care about the players political leanings, or what else they do that doesn't involve a ball, or scoring points with that ball.
Ask OJ.
First, we have a once drunken knucklehead asshole at 17 who is now in line for the SC seat and now we have a young lady who decides to sit for the pledge of allegiance. But I ask myself, if I had a 17 yo child, which strait or conviction would I have my child take. Brewskis or social issues... I'd take the stance of the young lady. She's demonstrating a conviction in what she believes in. Like the pledge says ,"With liberty and justice for all". I have never walked in her shoes, or pretend to know what she's gone through, be it family, friends or her own personal story but I like her conviction...so I got no beef with what she's doing.
Also did anyone notice that Eric Reid signed with Carolina......jus saying

When I was 17 I was lugging around an M 60 machine gun, but I was most definitely a liberal AND I probably drank a LOT more beer than did Brett Kavanaugh, not to mention I smoked pot and fucked hookers as well, but if I wasn't in "this man's army" I may very well have refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance myself. I always kind of resented being forced to make some phony pledge to a piece of cloth and never actually recited it after age about 11 or so and simply mumbled a few words during the pledge. By the time I was seventeen most likely I would have had the guts to simply park my ass in my seat and not stand at all during the Pledge just like her.
I still don't see why her race has any bearing at all on this issue. I don't see how being black gives her any more, or any less right to protest. As for Eric Reid, so much for collusion, the Panthers think he can help them win, if some other team thought Colin Kaepernick would be a net positive to their organization they would damn sure sign him. There is something to be said about someone who is deemed to be a "cancer in the locker room" I have run sales organizations and have fired some very capable salespeople, not because their "stats" weren't good enough, but because they were malcontents who made everyone else around them perform worse and the net result was the company as a whole made less sales and getting rid of those cancerous and disruptive influences made the "team" better by doing so. I suspect that is very much a reason that no NFL team wants him on their roster or in their locker room distracting the other players from their jobs that pay them millions.
Back to India Landrey, I 100% support her right to sit during the Pledge of Allegiance. It is most definitely her 1st amendment right to speak her mind.
So no one has ever said Kap was a cancer in the locker room dumbass.
It was the White owners kissing Trump ass and worried about some White fans. Also the sponsors, but Nike blew up that argument! They made the NFL owners and those fans look like fools and realized a lot of people support Kap and Eric too!
The Carolina Panthers owner is new and not the biggest Trump fan either. Plus the other NFL owners know they have a good case against them.
Also India has every right to sit.
Just like Kap and Eric had every right to kneel too!

Sorry fg, I would really like to discuss this with you, but you are entirely TSTTT.
Talking to you about anything is like talking to a toddler about quantum physics.
He's correct that you're WRONG about Kap being a '"cancer in the locker room." That has NEVER been alleged. And he's right about Kap's unemployment being the result of owners too afraid of alienating a certain segment of their fan base.
Sadly but predictably, the rest of his post is idiotic.
but if a team signed him now, he most certainly would be.
Teams do what's good for the teams, If you ran a coffee shop would you hire a waitress who you knew was going to offend a certain segment of your customer base? Why should NFL teams be forced into hiring someone they know for a fact is going to be a distraction from their main job of winning football games? NFL teams are not tasked with being SJW's, nor should they be. The NFL is a "for profit" multi-billion dollar industry, and the teams are all in competition with each other, the fact that the Panthers signed fellow "kneeler" Eric Reid should put to rest any claims of collusion against the NFL. The teams do what they feel is in their own best interest, it's pretty obvious to anyone without an agenda that the teams have individually, not jointly decided that having Kaepernick on their team is not in their best interests.
Which is a synonym for "was." It's called a classic distinction without a difference. Also, the Panthers' hiring of Eric Reid proves nothing. He was NOT well-known for it especially compared to Kaepernick, who was the face of the entire movement and a total lightening rod for it. YUGE difference.
You can try and deflect, but you have nothing.
Also where is the proof that Kap was a locker room problem clown?? It's clear you cannot back up that stupid claim.
Just like Trump you makes things up and it's all about trying to make yourself sound better.
It's people like you, that are the real joke on here!

You're a smart guy bigguy, at least in the top three wisest TDS Lefties on P&R.
At one time you were the wisest Lefty here but the company you keep has lowered your intelligence.
When you follow Jake's lead you are dumbing down.
Kraperneck was a thorn to his team in the locker room and a proven failed quarterback, long before he melted down and blamed the USA for his own short comings.
http://nypost.com/2015/10/25/colin-kaepernick-and-the-49ers-have-a-locker-room-problem/
October 2015 Krapeneck was described by a sports reporter as alone on an island inside their locker room a month after Kraperneck's 16.7 passer rating against Arizona Cardinals.
Kraperneck was rated 51st out of 53 quarterbacks in 2015

Gambler is stating facts about Kraperneck while you are denying reality.
You can try and deflect, but you have nothing.

Just like Trump you makes things up and it's all about trying to make yourself sound better.
It's people like you, that are the real joke on here!
Rupert Murdoch the same guy that owns both Fox fake News and the NY POST is proud of your stupidity.
Also the problem of social injustice was going on was before former President Obama took office!
I guess you forgot about slavery, Jim crow etc. It's good and bad cops too.
You are known as a mouth piece for Putin and Trump.
So now let's look at some facts.
Colin Kaepernick was not a locker room problem.
Also you can't even spell his name right Quad.
This was about protecting the feelings of White NFL fans and sponsors period.
Since most of them, like you want to stay in denial.
They love black people performing for them.
Most of them don't care about the daily Injustice face by people of color.
Just stop your bullshit and looking for ways to defend Trump fraud agenda.
So the real NFL fans realize Colin Kaepernick is better than some of the Qb's today.
This article backs up that point and watching football games.
You can see, some of these guys cannot even touch what Colin did in his career.

Kraperneck started his protests when Obama was President.
Krapeneck was well known as the biggest cry baby in the NFL long before MAGA Trump was elected
I agreed with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg when she said Kaepernick's protest is a disappointment.
Ginsburg also mentioned Kraperneck's protest is dumb and disrespectful, similar to burning the flag.
Two more Cops killed this morning because of someone who doesn't respect authority.
Who knows if he learned to hate Cops because of Kraperneck.
Kraperneck is a disgrace to millions of us that feel proud of the USA , Our Flag, Our Military and
Our Law Enforcement.
I am glad Kraperneck has the freedom to exhibit his stupidity.
Too bad for him teams aren't looking to hire a stupid quarterback.
Good for me I'm not penalized for not watching the NFL.
So no one has ever said Kap was a cancer in the locker room dumbass.

I bet you don't even know he played in a Super bowl.
Trump and his supporters like Quad, do not respect or understand the US Constitution.
They would rather race bait and find ways to promote lies.
So with Nike stock and sales way up. Also Colin lawsuit against the NFL moving forward now.
He has plenty of support in this country and Trump supporters are lying to themselves.
Colin is not a disgrace to the USA , Flag, Military and Law Enforcement.
The man you voted for has been doing that his whole life Quad.
You forget the five deferments, attacks on the FBI and U.S. National Intelligence Community.
The Federal lawsuits brought against Trump for housing discrimination and Trump University.
How can we forget the Russian investigation and some of his top people being convicted of several crimes!
Trump is a disappointment to the USA unlike Colin and that's a fact!

He has been arrested by the police, acquitted by a jury of his peers, and has been incarcerated following his acquittal. I have never heard him speak out about police or the criminal justice system.
Speaking of speaking out about the CJS, was does Kaepernick only speak about the police?

.
OJ was CONVICTED on numerous charges relating to theft, kidnapping, conspiracy, assault, etc. in 2008. He was jailed as punishment for those crimes, not for murdering Nicole and Ron.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O._J._Simpson_robbery_case
I didn't include the whole story cause most know it. I was just mentioning the legal system part. And how that aspect played out.
.
However, states can mandate various constitution abridgements for juveniles: drinking age, driving age, marital age, school attendance, etc.. As claimed by Texas here, their law is to compel parents to at least APPEAR to play some role in their child's life. The girl can be easily exempted from standing if she brings in a note from her parent(s).
.
Now, most kids I knew were smart enough to bring in such a note: "Please excuse Billy from standing for the pledge. Thank you. Sincerely yours, My mother." and be done with it. From newspaper stories over the years, I think that most school kids who challenge the laws (under the Constitution) (dress codes, haircut codes, makeup codes, weapons codes, etc.) usually start out as being disrespectful badass troublemakers who never paid attention in class long enough to know what the Constitution is. It's usually an adult who steps in later to challenge a detention or expulsion and elevate the issue to a court case. I don't know if the girl in this case is just a chronic troublemaker or if she was applying what she learned in Civics Class to a real world situation.
.
Teens forced to stand for the pledge? I'm leaning towards OK, since there is an easy way to get out of the requirement.
.
What's next? Teens forced to take math class using Arabic numerals claiming it is indoctrination into Muslim Fundamentalism? Music class teaching Handel's Messiah is indoctrination into Christian orthodoxy? English class reading Mark Twain's Huck Finn teaches the n-word? The only things left will be Introduction to Hip Hop and lunch period.
A pledge of alligence app.
Good morning class! Now everyone log into their pledge app and place your smart phone over your heart.
I pledge a alliance to Apple, Android, and Google for the mind numbing Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram which it delivers to the palm of my hand. One nation, where there is no God, undeleteable and there are no liberties or justice for neither woman nor man.
Because this post is actually kinda funny. Luckily for you, your post above denigrating teachers is monumentally dumb. If you don't think our kids need educating by the best possible people you are a hopeless ignoramus. This probably results from your having had really shitty teachers right up through the Fifth Grade when you dropped out/got thrown out.
The public school system is the perfect example of how socialism fails all of the interested parties involved. The students, the teachers, and even the state.
The largest obstacle teachers face with unruly children is parents who show little or no respect for authority and rules.
When a child starts their first day in school they should have been taught at home to show respect for teachers and to follow their instructions.
The young lady in Windfern High school should not have to stand if she has no desire to do so, provided she follows the school's written rules and obtains a parent or guardian’s permission, if she wants to opt out.
If that's too much to ask she best start her own business if she hopes to hold an adult job for any length of time.
Parents that hope to see their offspring grow to become successful, secure adults usually teach their children the value of respect for all people especially those in positions of authority.
How many times has someone been shot because they were showing no respect for someone trying to
merge into their lane.
I can think of many scenarios where showing respect can saves lives.
Parents who believe their children have no need to follow rules and show respect to authority in school and elsewhere, are setting them up for huge failures in a civilized society.
I do believe it was heavy handed and ignorant for the school to suspend the child for four days.
In my opinion the school could have punished her for not following rules with in school detention.
